We have been busy with deer hunters and have not run the dogs in two weeks. Donny comes down and we plan a hunt. It showered across most of the area and it cooled of pretty good so Donny and I loaded up some dogs and headed for our place at Matador. We have gotten beat out there the last two times by what I thought was a good boar. So instead of taking the young dogs I loaded AJ and Smoke with Curly to catch. Donny brought his young dog Rose and Sam.

We hit the pasture at 10:00, good winding breeze and everything was wet. We roaded all the way to the back without a strike and were surprised. Unloaded Curly and walked back in to the pasture to some crossings along a small creek where good boars and known to hand out. We came to a game trail that had a single set of good sized boar tracks heading towards one of my neighbors feeders. We let the dogs work, I knew they would find him because the tracking conditions were the best that they had been all year. Donny's dog Rose was the first to open. She was alone and moving slowly back down the creek towards us. Sam and AJ joined her at the fence line and had a solid bay. AJ was barking so I knew it was a good pig. The pig pushed through the fence and continued to walk. AJ went for the catch as I sent Curly from about 100yards. Every think went quiet and Donny and I went to the last place we heard the dogs. I could hear some thrashing down the creek and knew that had him caught.

It was a good Boar about 225lbs and he was really trying to work over the dogs in a narrow spot in the creek but AJ and Curly held well and kept themselves out of trouble. I slipped in and stuck him, no dogs cut. Cast the dogs again and they hit a group of smaller hogs We had a split bay going and I sent Curly. I think they ended up killing a couple more on their own and we picked them up a 1/2 away in the brush. Fun night for the two old guys.

Thanks,
Paul T
