How many hunt alone?  Do you let the fact that no one will go slow you down? What about at night?  I'm new to hog hunting and will be working nights starting Monday so it may be hard to get anyone to go on my days off

I enjoy the company of others on a hunt. Of course if I didn't have anyone to go with (ever) then I would go alone.

Just keep in mind that anything that can go wrong usually does and it is sure nice to have an extra set of hands, ears and eyes.

Im sure that someone will want to tag along.  Smiley

Hunting alone will definitely let you learn your dogs and how they hunt better, because your paying more attention to them.  I've seen big boar hogs that I was glad I had help on because managing them by myself would have been almost impossible.  Couple of things that make life easier when hunting alone is duct tape and handcuffs.  Handcuffs make it super easy on big board and barrs and duct tape makes life easy when you put a piece over their eyes when your letting them back go.

I hunt alone most of the time.  Its usually more enjoyable when you have some good people to hunt with but I like to hunt enough I don't mind going on my own.  But like others said just be extra prepared because it can get interesting by your self...especially at night time.

i hunted alone for a long time getting older now i try and have help . but when i was alone i would allways carry a kid rope with me for the big hogs . they is hell to throw buy your self  Grin  and i would rope the back leg and if possble put the other end over a limb and keep working that back leg up till i'd have it up in the air good then i'd tie the dog back and procede to getting the hog tied at a slower pace . it's hell of alot of work on the big ones when you're alone . got in to more wrecks than i care to remember . stickin em or shooting em would be alot easyer [sometimes]  just be very careful and allways let someone know where you're going and be damn shure you got dogs you trust with your life .

when i first started back up, i hunted alone bc the diehard deer hunters were the 1s that also hogdogged, but would rather hunt horns than tusks and i strated hunting at night for the simple and respectful reason of deer season. i still manage to hunt alone, just bc of the same issues and also being new to the aera and the only guy i know in my area that hunts too, i dont want to overextend his offers to take me on the land he has permission to hunt. he is a good man and i would call a friend, but will not confuse his kindness for weakness and pester him to hunt his land.

My job gives me the freedom to take off whenever I want. Its hard to find people to go during the week so I will go alone. I've caught a lot of hogs when hunting with my buddies that wonder what I would have done by myself. We never carry a gun when we hunt but I do when I go by myself. I have been in some situations when I sure wish I had some help but have managed so far. I would rather go with my buddies but im not gonna pass up a chance to go either.

HUNTING ALONE CAN BE EXCITING YOU KNOW THATS WHEN THE CRAP IS GONNA HIT THE FAN WHEN YOU DONT HAVE ANYONE AROUND TO HELP OR BACK UP YOUR CRAZY STORY.  JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU GOING AND WHEN YOU WILL BE BACK.  I COULD SEE A EPISODE OF--------------I SURVIVED....STORY GOES SOMETHING LIKE.  WELL THERE I WAS ALL ALONE IN A CREEK 12 OF THEM AND ME AND 2 OF MY BEST DOGS. that is a good story about what can and will eventually happen jesse thanks for sharing . i would also like to add that when i first started hunting these damn hogs . i didn't even know another hog hunter . i used to trim trees and brush for a living and i allways wore brush chaps [chainsaw proof ] they are easy to manuver in and are made of the same material as our cut vest and i was proudly wearing them when hog hunting alone saved me from being cut on numerus occasions . and if i'm ever hunting alone i will be wearing them , cause you just never know .

I hunt alone probably half of the time but I don't have a catch dog just bay dogs. So I don't have to worry bout throwin a hog and getting him tied. My catch dog is a Ruger 22. long rifle and she has caught on the ear everytime. I enjoy it like others have said you can really focus on your dogs. I'll be the first to admitt it can get interesting from time to time thats why I carry my 40. on my hip just in case.
