Stretching your dog feed.

Most folks are looking to find cheaper feed but retain the required nutrients to sustain your dogs health and performance.  Just wondering what types of fillers or tricks folks might be utilizing to stretch your feed.

Some examples are wetting your dry feed and mixing cheaper feed into higher protein feed.

What is your methods?

I use rice bran oil use a spray bottle give there food about three squirts

Meat hit the jackpot found a processor and get it free.  Guys most processors just dump the bones etc from deer hogs elk etc and there is lots of meat left on them.

I got a gallion from t.s.c. I had a gyp that was lookin bad she would not eat every good. Id feed her first them come back and pour a little over the feed she left an she'd eat some more. I feed it to my bulldog it will put fat on a dog an make his hair slick.

If you can't afford to feed your dogs the needed amount , cut down on them. Fillers do nothing for them.

I save all the bacon grease dripping and all the left over cooking oil from frying fish etc.etc and I keep a gallon sized coffee can next to the stove to  store this oil and I poor a tablespoon or two on the dog food...any left over meat or meat trimming go over the dog food and this cuts my feed bill some.

I also found the sportsmix $2.43 cheaper per fifty pound bag at the feed store back where I deer hunt...so I will save a little right there...

I am only feeding 4 dogs but still like to mix up the menu and they sure appreciate it,i feed shawnee mills 28/15 dry food. I get as many meat scraps and bones(there is a whole lot of meat and fat left on there) as i want from stubblefield meats 3 miles down the road,i have contact in the restaurant industry that gives me as many loaves of whit bread that goes out of date as i can handle and fisher feeds across the street has a chicken battery so i get as many cracked or defect eggs as i can fit it my fridge for free,i never have a problem with running out of dog food and the dogs look as good as they ever have.

we are feeding 12 dogs and use all different feed solutions we buy a little, get ofcuts and mutton bones from local prosesors and shoot possums and rabbits not all of the dogs like pork

An old timer from here use 2 go 2 a rice dryer and shovel
Up all the left over rice and place n 5 gallon buckets &
Put water n there and let the rice swell up. He would feed 1
cup of dog food & 1 cup of rice. Them dogs would be fat
& healthy.

Try to find used cooking oil from a fried chicken place, its high in fat and use one cup on top of dog food u usually feed, will fatten them up quick, gives some flavor and is free if they are not already selling it to a fat truck.

yellow i put mine on diamond hi energy and poor corn oil on it wheat and rice are good fillers but they dont get much out of it plus a good ohg dog aint never fat

I get chicken for .59 a pound and beef for .25 a pound. I did leg work to find cheap prices,that is getting the most bang for your buck and not cutting corners.

You are mistaken, grease(the kind to use for dogs) is made from animal fat, adding animal fat aka grease to dry dog increases the fat content, palablilty, and gives a flavor to the dry dog food that helps a dog digest the food.  You can turn cheap dog food into hi fat hi protein by using it, the post is about how to stretch dog food, the rendering trucks sell the grease to dog food companies as well as others, at one time one could buy a product called meat scraps from the feedstore, it was made from cooking bones and opal left over from butchering cows and run thru a hammermill, due to mad cow outbreak the rules changed due to the brains and spinal cords might enter another animals food chain, it was $15 a hundred for meat scraps, I am not sure if it is avaialble any more, that is used in name dog food as well as the cooking oil.  The cooking oil is not all animal based anymore so be sure u get the right kind, not sure what kind of vegestable oil is out there and its fat and protein percentage.

I wonder if it is the same guy I know...dogs look healthy but probably not healthy.

Feed a higher quality dog food.....it cost about twice as much per pound, but you feed less than half as much,....therefore saving money.....simple seems to me. Plus, your dogs are healthier, there's about half as much crap to clean up....works for me.
