I'm new here and I have a question about my new pup. I bought a BMC pup and his mom and dad had all of the markings of a typical BMC, however he has a light colored mask and a liver colored nose. I did a little research and I have read that those traits are likely but I was curious if you all thought that maybe he might have a little ridgeback in the family tree.

Well getting an answer about color and confirmation on a Bmc is like opening a strangers tackle box. It all depends on their line what traits they bred for and how rigid they kept their line. You are definitely gonna here from some of the registered boyz about the liver or pink nose. Just to make sure confirm he still or did have a tail. But seriously you need to take a look at parents and grandparents if possible to make sure you didn't get some outside influence on him. If he came from a respected line the owner should be able to answer all these questions without hesitation and back it up with photos of its heritage. Good luck bud glad to see ya goin Bmc either way!

He does have a full tail. I have seen the parents and they are your"typical" bmc. I could really care less as long as he will do his job. He shows good signs of pig hate'n. His parents were gritty as all get out. I was just curious because I do not know a lot about the breed in general. Just like to learn all I can. Thx

I am at work and using my ipad so I am unable to post pucs right now. I will try to post soon. He is 6 months old and I have not had him long. Right now I am just trying to build a relationship with him. I am not in a big hurry. I want him to trust me first. He does work well in a pen though.

Don't let him fool you yellowblackmask, he has a cat too! Lol j/k. He does have a good cat but I was happy to see him going yellow too. I've heard of that before. Pink-nosed bmc. Imayellafella had a litter that had a couple in it.

He is a good lookin lil pup. I would say talk to some of the papered dog holders. Seems to be a more common trait on the liver or pink noses.
Do a search on here for pink nosed cur dogs there was a thread awhile back that could be interesting to ya.

there is rumor, or possibly truth, depending on who you talk to about the pink noses. it is rumored to be caused by breeding to close, basicly inbred. line breeding is a good thing, but when your lines start stacking ontop of each other on the top side and bottom, from what ive read on this forum from others, you get them pink noses. i got the papers on a pup who has a pink nose, and his top and bottom lines are really really tight crossed.

There is a big difference between linebred bmcs with pink noses, and MUTTS with pink noses and chocolate masks!!!

No, I think all that tight breeding is bringing all the snakes out of the woodpile. I've never seen any old bloodline of bmc's throw pink noses or bob-tails.
