It has everything to do with the amount of hogs on the property you hunt.
But more importantly, who cares if your dogs are better than someone else's? Do they catch you hogs? Do you enjoy hunting behind them? If so, then F all the c0ck measuring and go hunt.

I have competition hunted beagles for rabbits, hounds for coon and curs for coon and squirrel from Tx,Ok and La. and to do well in any of them comps you HAD to have a top dog were ever you dropped it period... I have seen many of the home town hero dogs who were promoted and hyped but never hunted any further than there own back yard if you will get dropped in a different place, terrain and suck horribly....got to there place and they could give you a run for your money. I was fortunate to have a top dogs in these venus in that I could usually place or win no matter were I went but that is not all that easy. In reallity most folks (in general don't get anyones panties in a knot) don't know or have never had or hunted with one of them dogs that no matter were you drop it it will produce and do it with style.

crittercatcher90 you're not going to my spots so if you're going to challenge somebody..then find a mutual location..

TShelly, I'm not talking about an open competition where anybody can pay to enter. That only proves who has the better place to hunt.. I mean a competition between 2 people to find out who has the better dog.

Circle C I like your idea, we should add a "LIkE" and "Don't Like" button on the site Then we can have a competiton on who can get the most "likes" on a post

Tshelley that what critter90 was talking about too but the measuring tape came out and zippers dropped, then buzzards started circling. That's one reason we as hunters will be viewed as dumb rednecks, that high mentality...o yeah..o yeah well. Blah blah blah..

LOL it happens, especially this time of year!! Everyone is Primed ready for deer season to end and the tail gates to drop. No worries, some people take criticism better than others and some don't. In the end cooler heads will prevail and everyone will go back to catching hogs :p For the non-night hunters ETHD is our only fix during deer season

To touch on what Underdog said, I personally don't see anything wrong with head to head hunting as long as it’s done in a civil and professional manner. Not everyone is cut out for it. That’s why some coon hunters classify themselves as pleasure hunters and others lean more towards competition hunter. Also some dogs are sold as pleasure hunting dogs and others sold as competition dogs. I could see individuals losing their tempers, but head to head comps are done with every other type of dog hunting. Why not hog dogs? I don't know anyone that hunts with allot of people, who's ever had a dog that hasn't been struck over some time or other. The key I think is having dogs that can be consistent and always compete / produce. Eventually names are made and when people draw / hunt / compete with certain competitors they know that they are going to have a run for their money. Every dog has its day and good dogs are where you find them.

I am also curious as to whom you think on this thread or the previous hasn't caught their fair share of hogs? I agree with Mr. Skinner and several others, I enjoy hunting for so many reasons that have nothing to do with being competitive.

Now we have a mod stirring the pot..y'all are talking one on one comps that's fine so what style do y'all think we should go with casting, walking, roading, hood or ground. I have seen personally long range hound curs run right pass hogs and we walk my short range cur by there and they hit track. I know for a fact my places and others places where covered with hogs. I've seen loose dogs chase a single hog all night and gritty dogs haul in several hogs in a couple hours. I've seen loose dogs bay up quick over and over and over then loose the hog and I've seen gritty dogs bay up get cut and the hunts over after one hog.. My point is a hunt is a hunt and there is always a any given Sunday in hog hunting. I own potlickers myself and we never caught anything more than shoats but they are my potlickers and I know how to hunt them and it dam sure is enjoyable.
