As some of you might remember, I cross trained one of my dogos, Daisy, to not only hunt hogs but also do blood tracking work on deer. And she has found a few that were misplaced shots. I did'nt  use her for tracking at all last year so that makes two years since she has been put on a blood trail.  Well About 3 weeks ago my nephews girlfriend shot her first deer and it was a misplaced shot. They found blood but after tracking a few hundred yards the blood played .  So they called my son Daniel to see if he could bring Daisy over and try her hand at helping find this deer. It was geting dark fast and was totally dark by the time he got there. He puts her on the blood and off she goes. Just like she has'nt missed a beat. It got all quite as Daisy dissapears into the darkness of the woods. after about 15 minutes later they hear crashing and coming thru the woods and all of a sudden they heard a hit and the deer let out a loud blate .  She caught it ! ! !!  They take off to her and quickly dispatch the wounded deer. Thanks to Daisy My Niece got to enjoy putting her FIRST deer on the tailgate and plate .

Then this past weekend my son get a picture on his deer camera of a NICE 8 point buck. I made the mistake and told him that if he killed that deer that I would pay for it to be mounted and put on his wall. Well he gets on his stand and sit all day. Just at prime time right before dark the big buck walks out and Daniel slings some lead . Well guess what He calls me and tells me to " hurry up and bring Daisy its a monster and i heard it crashing thru the woods " . Dang another missplaced shot ! ! !  So I hurry up and load up Daisy and get to him. We find just a few drops of blood and put Daisy on it and off she goes. It gets quite and we start easing the direction Daisy went and were looking for blood and listening for Daisy. It wsnt but about 5 minutes we hear her growling and fighting with it. We run to her and the deer is already dead but daisy was letting him have it anyway. LOL . I think i'll take her out this weekend and try and catch some pigs.

Very nice Marvin, I know Star caught a lot of wounded critters for James.  The dogs can do it for sure!

Did u start her on blood first then hogs? I got a young unicorn and might be better for him to have a job before he is old enough to start using for catch.  Good thing about using a catch dog for that is you don't have to worry about it going after deer scent instead of going to a bay. I figure it would be near impossible to have a strike/ blood trailing dog without it trashing on deer all the time

Awesome story and cool that she did It t wice and proved it was not a fluke

Yes I started her on blood tracking first as a pup but at about 7-8 months of age i started her on hogs in a pen then just used her as a turn in to a bay at closer ranges then at farther distances.  Then the following deer season put her back on blood tracks ONLY even if I knew the deer was down i still put her on the blood and let her go to the downed deer.  And even during deer season  I still would take her hog hunting.

I love to hear that. It is great to teach the dogs different things and make them more versatile. We have been working Jag with blood trailing too since he was little. He has blood trailed many hogs and a few deer. Unfortunately hasnt gotten the chance to catch a deer, just find it. lol. but I love to hear of hog dogs experiencing other parts of the hunting world.  Grin
