I'll hunt either.... but I prefer the daylight where I can see(and thereby enjoy more) what I'm doing...

My buddies down south hunt the night almost exclusively, swear it makes their dogs better... I just don't have the opportunity to prove it to myself... most of my properties are daylight only, and my dogs show it lol... never seem to do as good at night as I do in the light...

i prefer to hunt the daytime . keeps from havin to do so much extra training on the dogs trash breaking wise . day time most all you gotta worry about is deer and cows and the occasional yote . plus i just like seeing where i'm at and going . plus daytime you get into more layed up sounders and can work a whole sounder all day . longest i worked a sounder was 8 hours till we just got flat worn, out killed 10 that day .

I hunt both. Prob hunt as much at night as I do in day. I got to pups around a year old that have been on more hogs at night than day. Even go alone sometimes at night.  Which my wife does not like! Lol

We hunt both but more at night because we can only hunt at night during deer season and we hunt at night in the summer when its hot. So we do hunt during day time but only after deer season before it gets too hot and in the fall before deer season. That way we get to hunt 12 months out of the year.

Night time isn't so bad once you get used to it. With good head lights, you can see really good at night.

i prefer a morning hunt myself, like others i wanna see whats going on...but hunting is hunting to me day or night.

This is a good topic and i have a question myself...

I've heard of dogs not hunting well at night never believed it until i got a younger cur that does not hunt out hardly at all during the night. During the day he's gone...

anyone else have this problem?

I mostly hunt at night, but enjoy hunting day time more. What with work and the heat, it just usually ends up being night hunts.

You dang right I have that problem  Grin. I hunt mostly during the day and my dogs do decent, but the few night hunts I've made, my dogs didn't seem to wanna leave my feet to go look for sign. It's aggravating and the only way to fix it is hunt more nights so your dogs can get used to it, but night hunts are rough for me.

I like daytime best...but night time is ok especially in the hot months down here in the south.

best night time hunting for me is in the full moon on a clear night... and the moon is directly overhead around midnight.

Due to schedules and heat we hunt night/early mornings for the most part but during these bipolar cool spurts we hunt during the day....the hogs have pretty much quit moving at night and move in the early mornings / day time.

I prefer the day time so I can see what I am doing, you put a light on the top of my head and it is a hot mess  Cheesy plus I can't see well enough to shine the light any way! Grin

We hunt mostly at night and we have a dog that James got from his cousin that has only been hunted in the daytime and he gets out and hunts way better in day time. Also, we try to start our puppies in day time  so its easier on them and then it takes a little while for them to get used to hunting at night.

A pup that is getting out really good in the day, sometimes will not go very far before coming back to us when we take him out at night for the first time. But we keep taking them with the older dogs and after a few hogs at night they take right to it.

DJ

I have noticed over the years that dark moonless nights produce less hogs than brighter nights...
