I see a growing trend on people selling dogs... no calls, text only. What the hell is that all about???

If you can't talk to a person "man to man" about a dog you are selling... that's a big bullseye in my eyes of a crooked dog trader. No offense folks, but if you're trying to sell something... let's talk about it. Wink

These days with cell phone bills its cheaper to text I pay 240 bucks a month for 2 phones and 700 minutes to share so I got unlimited texting. That's my reason some people can be real long winded and go on and on and on. Im one of those people so I text. Im no bullnumber 2ter.

Don't worry about the text...if a guy has over 40% of his posts on this forum in the dog trade then that'll be a big clue.  You always see the same guys selling dogs every single day of the week, or a deal fell through, or someone they know selling out, and of course at the end of it TEXT ONLY.  It's a joke.

They oughta start trying to sell dirty diapers to the public...they'd be doing the same thing as on the dog trade: selling a bunch of $hit!

Text for me at work is a lot easier if I am working I can text back when I get a chance.  That being said text is just a feeler for the call if I'm looking to buy or if I'm giving away or saleing I am going to talk to them on the phone first.  Guess text is just something that is not a right now deal.  Kinda like typing on this forum it is here when I am available type of deal.

Off topic but I think it should be mandatory for the seller to put what town the dog is in. I have been looking for a pit for a while,  but im not driving to bfe for a catch dog.

Ill text before I call to find out where the dog is located so I don't have to listen to someone ramble about a dog that im not interested in because it 500 miles away.

are you wanting a finished catch dog? If not just check Craigslist. You'll sort thru a few, but can easily find one ready to rock. People get a pit, then worry about the apartments policy after its grown. They do all the raising for you.

Oh, and I like texting better than talking, I can receive a question and ignore it till after I get my daughter to bed, but for selling or buying anything id rather talk.

I'm not a dog trader, but I am a pretty big craigslist peddler, and for me text is usually preferred. For a few reasons for me. I usually cant hear my phone at work, nor do I have time or want to sit and BS with everyone about every little thing. I like text because I can respond to it when I have time. And usually I give the person a quick description or answer any questions, then end my message by saying "if seriously interested, call me."  That last line weeds out 90% of the people that sent me messages. If at that point they take the time to call me I will give them my time to answer any further questions. If they still continue to blow up my phone with stupid questions by text, I usually quit responding to them.

I agree, if I were gonna spend big money for a dog, I would definitely want to talk to the seller. Just thought I would give my point of view when it comes to me selling stuff.

I agree, Mike.  I can receive a text message full of mis-spelled words and text acronyms and guarantee I can guess the senders age within a couple years, and be right 99% of the time.  Perhaps not entirely their fault, but I don't think the younger generation sees this as rude and not to mention it doesn't give me a very good first impression.

If I receive a text and don't recognize the senders number, they probably won't receive a response.  I'm pretty busy during the day and the last thing I have time for is trying to hold a conversation By pecking out words on a phone.

Hell I think texting is great!  No one with any sense would buy anything off texting alone, you would eventually call.  I remeber several years ago when I would look at dog trade adds and nearly all of them had a couple good pictures of the dog for sale.  I know for a fact it is way easier today to post a picture and yet you cant hardly find an add with a picture of a dog in it.  Just my observation and another reason why I am happy I don't have to use the dog trade very often  Smiley

I think this should be mandatory!!! (pics of dogs for sale) number 2, nearly everyone I know old and young operate the internet from their phone and we all know theres not a phone out there that wont take a picture!!  Betcha a lot of stolen dogs would get recognized by mandating this.
