Don't know who else uses this term, but in south Fl thats what we call legging a hog without the dogs caught. It's risky and your eventually gonna get in a wreck, but it's about the biggest rush you can get IMO.
Who else does this, and what are some tricks you have tried to get it done?
How about some wrecks you have got in doing it?

I've done it a few times, but it is hard on the ol pumper. Usually can't use the restroom for several days afterward. I don't have any tricks like your hat trick. I just move slow and steady.

did it once on our trainer pig, it was for our graduation and my pop tied 500 bucks to our big boars left foot and first one to get it wins, his teeth were dubbed once a month and he was a mean train of a hog that had planted my arse and my dogs up against the fence plenty of times
never done it to a wild one but with to many drinks and 500 on the line my boots were knocked off but i got that money

Rope around the neck tied off to the pen.. Out in the woods... LOTS AND LOTS OF BEER! and hopefully a somewhat tired hog.

Another thing i've done a few times....
This has worked for me and a few of my buddies a few times. You have two people, one is "bait" and one legs it. The "bait" stands in front of the hog at somewhat of a safe distance, it seems like a hog doesn't even care about the dogs when somebody is standing in front of him, they just get the hogs attention. Then you just slip up in there real quiet and grab the tail or a leg. Seems like it has worked best at night when the "bait" is shining a light in his eyes.

We hardly ever have a catchdog with us unless we are track hunting and we turn loose on a big track. Our dogs will get catchy at times but for the most part will bay. We have caught alot of hogs with no dogs caught, and have tried to catch quite a few more who weren't having it. It's all about timing and you'll get tree'd alot but he'll slip up. Alot of our hogs will stand though pretty good.
We bayed a big Barr with only two dogs one night in a open sandy patch and the hog was having no part of me slipping up behind him, and there was no trees to get up so after I fought with him for thirty minutes and got slung around alil, we went and got a ol bulldog to finish the job. Another big blue boar we tried catching, well he ended up baying under some brush and he shot out as we were figuring what to do, and my uncle caught him by the ears and it picked him up and sliced a pair of rubber boots from the ankle up to the knee. That woulda been a bad wreck to say the least. Now I've had sows tree me like a dog trees a coon and reach up and grab my pants leg and pull me outta the tree and work on me alil before I could get her kicked off.
Another truck I seen, a spot light with the strobe feature, you can put it on strobe and shine a hogs eye and it seems to confuse em alil, and you can ease right up to em. Neat a trick as I ever saw, never believed it til I tried it. Doesn't work all the time but it works enough to make me a believer.
