Well imo sometimes it dosent matter what type or how good your dogs are your gonna lose some hogs and sometimes your dogs go thru slumps its all about timing in my mind

Guys thanks but its not the dogs they have bayed 200 hogs in the last 3 months. But there is 1 place that I can't seem to stop them they are mostly pure Russian and they run hard and fast. I just need some ideas on what to cross to get more speed and bottom or just quit hunting that spot

if it is that one place that is giving you problems it could be the terrain...might be the vegetation is too thick and the dogs can not keep up...Try one loose bay dog and a couple of walk in catch dogs...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

Most of them didn't run bad. There is one place I have to hunt that I've been  7 or 8 times caught hogs twice and ran hogs the rest of the time. That is what is aggrevating I hate running hogs with a passion.

If you are dis satisfied with the Ybmc that you are running. Try a different line.

Dogs with the bottom to stick with one till it bays... doesn't matter what breed it is.

I agree with this. A hog that wants to run, and can run, is going to until it makes it to its house!

Paul, them hairy dogs may work great in that wide open country... but I don't think they'd fare to well in an East Texas pine thicket.

X2  There is no substitute for a dog with endless bottom...although that is a double edged sword.

I disagree. If your dogs will NOT quit a hog, it is going to bay somewhere.

I think you otta try a plott.  My plotts aint real rough but they stick with the runner until he stops.  It may be 4-6 hours, sometimes they close the gap and sometimes the hog stretches the gap, but they stay with it until you either cut them off or the hog stops.  Poor hog, once he stops he is caught by plotts.  My plotts will catch the hog as soon as he stops, a lot of times before I can get there.  Your answer..a good plott.  They are very hard to beat.  Read some threads and you will see a lot of guys say thier lead strike dog is a plott or plott cross.  JMO

If you put a rough dog on a runner hav a vet on speed dial.... Or hav a cut kit reeeaaalllllll handy! If you got a dog that won't put a lot of pressure on a hog by trying to bite at it then he'll stop eventually.
