The kids are not only our future, they must be our NOW!

It had been raining here in East Texas for the last two days, and we woke this morning to what looked to be another day of the same. We loaded the truck with TDHA paraphenalia as well as all my trapping and dog hunting gear as the cold mist fell from the dark early morning sky. During the drive to Athens, Texas the sky cleared and we were blessed with a beautiful day for the Trailblazer Adventure Event.

Arriving at the Clement's Scout Ranch, we were greeted by the U.S. Sportsman's Alliance Field Director, Howard Robinson. We joined forces with fellow TDHA members, Lance, Erin, and Cason to set up our booth.
Shortly thereafter, the scouts, young people, their families and troup leaders began pouring in. We answered questions, showed off the dogs, the gear, and discussed the necessity to protect our rights and freedoms as hunters and dog owners.

The day and the event was a definate success. All, young and old seemed to enjoy things as we talked and showed off our four legged companions. We even sold one TDHA Camo T-shirt to a fine young man who I'm sure will wear it proud.

The head count was not available by days end, but U.S.S.A. is to provide us with a report when all there papers are finallized. They were expecting a low turnout due to the weather, but there was still a very good crowd of folks young and old.

Texas Dog Hunters Association members included:

Lance, Erin, Cason, John, Stephanie, Savannah

Breeds Represented:

Border Collie - Eagle the Wonder Dog (I love this dog!)
Pit Bull
American Bulldog/Dogo
Catahoula
Uglydog
Jagdterrier

The Crew (minus Cason - I believe he was assisting the falconer)

Stephanie, Savannah, and Cason with the falconer Jeff Suggs.

Other young ones learning about falconry.

JoLee, Eagle, LuLu, Chico, and Moo.

The Bulldogs are always a hit.

Lance and I in the booth

Sometimes you just have to get out of the booth and get down on their level!

Erin, Cason and Savannah showing off the dogs and answering questions.

A little discussion about the cutters and the whetters!

Tonka...Just getting loved by one of the young poeple!

JoLee getting her share of attention.

The questions kept coming, so we kept answering!(Those of you who know me, know I have no problem talking  Wink )

The hands on stuff like antlers, hog skulls, collars and assorted gear are always a big hit and wonderful teaching aids.

There is always one special youngster at these events that steals your heart. The next photo is the little girl who took the prize today. She noticed my Tonka shivering, so she removed her coat and placed Tonka inside it. She was precious. I even got a hug as she departed [Cheesy]

Thats awesome that yall took time from busy schedules to show those kids about hunting. Some would never get to experince our sport with out programs like that and the falcon is a neat touch. I dont know to many that do that. i knew one guy but it got to be to much work so he quit

I commend you guys for doing that, especially on a day with such good hog huntin weather.  The picture of that little girl with that jagd in the jacket is great.  I may have to come next year, never seen a falconer in person.

This was our third time to be a part of a U.S. Sportsman's Alliance Trailbazer Adventure event, and as always it was a great time for all. They had fishing, archery, and BB gun shooting for the kids to take part in. Also present were a fur trapper exhibit, the falcon exhibit, and our TDHA set-up. I think I enjoyed learning from the trapper and falconer as much as any of the kids. These are great events, and you get out what you put in! I always leave them with a smile !

If you ever wanted to get involved, now is your chance. The Harlingen / Rio Hondo event is next weekend and as of yet, we have no one to represent us from the TDHA. If you are willing to jump in with both feet, please contact me or Stephanie at (903) 738-4280. You can also get in touch with Longshot on this board as he is our fearless leader!

All that is required is a willing spirit, some kid friendly pups, and your dog hunting gear as visual aids.

Critter, that's awesome.  You know some of those kids will remember that day for a long time.

It's fantastic that you get out and let people learn about what you do.  Eager ears can learn a tremendous amount of information, but to be able to see and touch what's being talked about will allow a kid to remember the message far longer than otherwise.  Kudos to you for getting out and showing some young minds what it's all about.  Smiley
