The kids are not only our future, they must be our NOW!
It had been raining here in East Texas for the last two days, and we woke this morning to what looked to be another day of the same. We loaded the truck with TDHA paraphenalia as well as all my trapping and dog hunting gear as the cold mist fell from the dark early morning sky. During the drive to Athens, Texas the sky cleared and we were blessed with a beautiful day for the Trailblazer Adventure Event.
Arriving at the Clement's Scout Ranch, we were greeted by the U.S. Sportsman's Alliance Field Director, Howard Robinson. We joined forces with fellow TDHA members, Lance, Erin, and Cason to set up our booth.
Shortly thereafter, the scouts, young people, their families and troup leaders began pouring in. We answered questions, showed off the dogs, the gear, and discussed the necessity to protect our rights and freedoms as hunters and dog owners.
The day and the event was a definate success. All, young and old seemed to enjoy things as we talked and showed off our four legged companions. We even sold one TDHA Camo T-shirt to a fine young man who I'm sure will wear it proud.
The head count was not available by days end, but U.S.S.A. is to provide us with a report when all there papers are finallized. They were expecting a low turnout due to the weather, but there was still a very good crowd of folks young and old.
Texas Dog Hunters Association members included:
Lance, Erin, Cason, John, Stephanie, Savannah
Breeds Represented:
Border Collie - Eagle the Wonder Dog (I love this dog!)
Pit Bull
American Bulldog/Dogo
Catahoula
Uglydog
Jagdterrier
The Crew (minus Cason - I believe he was assisting the falconer)
Stephanie, Savannah, and Cason with the falconer Jeff Suggs.
Other young ones learning about falconry.
JoLee, Eagle, LuLu, Chico, and Moo.
The Bulldogs are always a hit.
Lance and I in the booth
Sometimes you just have to get out of the booth and get down on their level!
Erin, Cason and Savannah showing off the dogs and answering questions.
A little discussion about the cutters and the whetters!
Tonka...Just getting loved by one of the young poeple!
JoLee getting her share of attention.
The questions kept coming, so we kept answering!(Those of you who know me, know I have no problem talking
)
The hands on stuff like antlers, hog skulls, collars and assorted gear are always a big hit and wonderful teaching aids.
There is always one special youngster at these events that steals your heart. The next photo is the little girl who took the prize today. She noticed my Tonka shivering, so she removed her coat and placed Tonka inside it. She was precious. I even got a hug as she departed [
