Just curious to see what everyone uses to worm their dogs with, how much and how often.

Ivermectin... 3/10 cc for a 50-100 lb dog the first weekend of the month... given orally.
The next weekend a squirt of safeguard or strongid paste wormers... about what you'd put on your toothbrush.
If you get a dog that's real wormy, give it the safeguard three days in a row.

I got a reecipe off of a KD'S Blackmouth Curs website that i use, Which is using a 500 ml bottle of valbazen and adding 10 cc's of ivermectin directly into the bottle. Both are wormers for cattle and sheep but work on dogs also. I havent had any problems with my grrown dogs and i am about to worm three week old pups tomorrow with the same stuff. Now i ihavent hunted my dogs but theey have no worms. The valbazen takes care of intestinal and liver worms, pretty much all worms dogs get, and the ivermectin takes care of heart worms. 25 LBS .75 ML 50 LBS 1.5 ML 75 LBS 2.25 ML 100 LBS 3.0 ML
They also have a good product suggestion there for fleas and ticks also. i just used it two days ago and my dogs are already relieved. You can go to Lowes or anywhere that they sell pesticides(I buy it at Lowes) it's in the garden section and it's in a blue quart plastic bottle labeled Bayer.....just like the aspirin company.....advanced 12month tree and shrub insect control concentrate.....turn the bottle to the back side and it should say active ingredient....Imidacloprid 1.47%.. This is the exact same chemical as admire but it is more dilute so we have to put more on the dog. I have been using it for over a year now on my curs and several friends' dogs. This is also the same chemical the vet sales trade name advantage...but it is more dilute than it but way much cheaper. A quart of this here in Texas it cost eighteen bucks and on average you can treat around sixty dogs with the quart. I put fifteen milliliters....15ml on all dogs from 40 to 65 lbs.... 20 ml on 65 to 90 lbs and 25 ml on a dog over 90 lbs. Put it on every dog that you own inside and outside every month. You won't have to spray anything because each dog will become a flea killing machine....Within 24 hours after treating the dog any flea that bites the dog for a month or more will die within a few minutes.....as more eggs hatch and fleas are born they will bite the dog and be dead quick. I have seen massive infestations irradiated by one dog being treated and every flea in their house and outside was dead in four days.
hope this helps, sorry its so long

I've heard the Bayer works too. When you say put 20 ml on each dog... do you mean spray it on or squirt down the back?
Also do you use it straight from the bottle or dilute it with water?

don't dilute it, just use it concentrate from the bottle. I just put it down their backs, i used a small syringe but the only problem i had trying to get it on their skin is it is kind of thick and likes to come up above their fur so i had to put it in alot of places on their backs. or if you can get them to stay on their backs you can rub it into their belly and chest skin, but since one of my dogs is nursing pups right now i didn't know how or if it would affect them but next time i am going to rub it in their chest and belly.

I'll vouch for the Bayer Tree and Shrub as well. We also have pesticide cattle tags fixed to the collars of the hog dogs (not the Aussies as they are sensitive to certain chemicals). Sometimes those ticks can be hard to reason with, but have had none since we did the Tree/Shrub and the cattle tags.
On wormer, I use Safeguard goat wormer. It's a little easier to measure out than the paste for horses that is only labeled in 100 or 250 lb increments. The goat wormer is a liquid and easily dispensed to the dog via syringe. It is a huge help in worming small puppies. 4.3 ml doses 100 lbs of dog. 125 ml will run you about $15. If you rotate wormers, Cydectin works well in the rotation. I haven't tried Valbazen but that's only because I can't use it on my pregnant goats. I try to buy products that I can use on more than one species :O) M

For fleas I've been using anything I could get for cheap. Advantage has worked the best for me. I have read about the Bayer tree and shrub before and I'm gonna try it when the fleas start hopping again. I have found the trick with those flea meds is to keep the dogs from rubbing it off long enough for it to soak into the skin on the back.... about 10 hours. I just lock them in there kennel which is over cement tiles so they cant rub thier backs in the dirt and rub it off before it ever soaks in.
I use Ivermictin and safeguard for wormer. Is it safe to give either one of those to preg. or nursing females?

That Bayer works!
I had one dog that got covered in fleas... and they stayed in that area and never moved to the other dogs. Within two days after I treated her, you couldn't find a flea on that dog. I put another dog there about a week later... no fleas!

Mike did you put it on straight and how much did you use? I bought some the other day for my dogs at the house. They have been eat up with fleas even after frontline and adams spray. I am going to use the stuff just need to know how much to put on, figured I would draw up in a syringe and apply down their back.

I did 15cc on Birdie and 20cc on a couple of bigger dogs. I squirted 1/2 down the back and 1/2 down the chest and belly. Its kind of thick so get the tip down to the skin and rub it in real good when your done.

I use same as Mike as far as wormer schedule. Ivermectin 3/10 ml per big dogs first week. D- Worm tablets next week, which one tablets treats up to 50 lbs.(can break in half for the little ones) If I get one with a really bad case, safeguard 3 day treatment. For flea and ticks I use prolate, cant remember how much you dilute off hand. But it last forever and works well, I mix mine in a gallon jug and fill a spray bottle with it. Never had any critter issues using that stuff.
