America has not become anything of the sort. We have become a much more understanding democracy over time. The good old days were not what they seem, of course hindsight bias will cause many of us to think so but in reality we have continued to move forward and make great accomplishments with every single minute of our existence. With such broad freedoms for ALL Americans these days it seems silly to ask if we have gone to number 2. People are just questioning more. Things that used to be no one else's business are now getting attention. The fundamentals of our democracy continue to move toward greater freedoms for People in the homeland and abroad. Families have not gone bad or awry and the picture perfect ideal of the 1950's family was a fake coverup so that those who experienced the great traumas of the depression could feel comforted by a fake " perfection". Wifes married men for economic welfare and served that purpose or else they were beaten, girls had babies and pretended they were there grandmas. The times have not become worse, but more open and more realistic. We understand what it is to be normal. Theres no such thing as the good old day. As a progressive country we make moves everyday and in every aspect of our society toward the greater good and understanding of the human species. I have traveled to nearly 25 different countries and 40 ish states over my short 20 yr existence as an American. I have seen true poverty and i have experienced true wealth. No where in the world will you find such an understanding and non oppressive government besides in the us. I say long live America and long live her people. AMEN

I'm all for opinions and different views. That's what this country was founded upon, but views such as the first one is what I THINK "my opinion" is wrong with this damn country.

I have only lived in this country for 10 short years and have watched it rapidly turn to number 2 in that period,i love it just as much as my homeland but if all these changes are just put of as a sign of the times we need to back up about 30 years and correct it,IN GOD WE TRUST!!!!!!!

Biology major... Anyway I never came here to have my political views botched or to even pick a side. Im on the side of whoever im comfortable with, the mere fact that your are attaching stigmas to my opinions is the plain and simple reason you think our country has gone to number 2, people who always point fingers but dont take an active role in goverment, we the people are our own goverment and belive it or not our opinions have shaped this country. I say go back to grade school, learn how to share and how to compensate and not to stereotype. I am merely an AMERICAN who believes in what this country stands for. If we dont work together and just point fingers like little children then yes absolutely nothing will get done. If you havent stayed in multiple countries for longer then a plane layover then quit comparing us with the rest of the world. Im only 20 years old and ive seen more culture and have had more overseas experience then many peers in my age group. I know that in America i have rights, and if they are violated then i will get reparation if i seek it. In other countries you shut your mouth or else. And if you dont like the USA then please leave. Dont use our land to hunt and dont use our internet to talk about bad about us. If you go to college and seek higher educationyou could better understand the way goverment functions and the respective roles of the people. Ifyou never been educated then of course your gunna sound like a highschooler picking a fight with a phd even if you 30 yrs older then me. LONG LIVE THE CONSTITUTION

If im whats wrong with this country, then were doing pretty damn well my friend. Youd be proud to have a son as well versed as I, but i doubt you would allow for this sort of education or this amount of opinion under your roof, because your scared of what great minds can do. Its really people who fear change like you that make our country seem like closed minded imperialistic asses when as a whole this country is more understanding excepting and friendlier then 99.9767675653737 percent of the world.

It is impressive that you seem to have taken your education as seriously as you have, it is also fortunate that you have been able to travel and experience other cultures. It is true that we as Americans are very fortunate to be in America and yes we do take a lot of our freedoms for granted.
Change also is a good thing, at times. Not always, yes this country has made progress in leaps and bounds while in the same stride have gone just as far backwards. When animals and criminals have rights that are similar to law abiding citizens, when "nature" is becoming more protected than people something is out of balance.
Public schools at all levels are influenced by government, government is influenced by money, and those with the most money want their ideas and standards pushed to the forefront so that they can profit the most.
You do make some valid points, the problem is that you admittedly do not believe in absolutes "I'm on the side of whoever I'm comfortable with" , this country was founded with biblical principles therefore it was founded on absolutes. When people with no absolutes and a relativistic mindset started gaining power in the government this country started a steady decline.( yes it is still the greatest country in the world in my opinion) but it does need people to step up and take an active role to make the progress that we have made seem like true progress.
I'm not as smart as you are, or as well educated, or apparently as wealthy. But I've learned as much as I could in school and now that I'm out of school I receive an even greater education from the people I talk to, difficulties in business, time hunting behind dogs or a rifle, in church, in books, with my wife and kids.
I do like these boards and the variety of opinions and the ability to state mine. What bugs me is when a person no matter how old or young comes in and starts talking with the kind of arrogance and pride that has been evident in all of your posts in this thread.

Cold beer, I didn't read through all this thread, but name calling isn't tolerated and won't get you very far on this board.

I defend my beliefs just like you do. I also do not live my life in accordance to ANY text. Nothing written by another mortal shall bind me. I know its hard for you to believe or maybe even fathom but alot of our worlds problems would be solved if every bible of every religion was burned... Hell if your to scared to burn them ill do it. We are our own makers, we make our path and we create our own wealth. If you really seek change then stop praying for it and start being the change you seek in this world. To anyone getting upset with me or the fact that a 20 year old has the right to an opinion, you know where the back button it. I suggest you use it.

I'm glad that you have got to travel to so much foreign land and seen so many states. I love this country and I have made sacrifices that your 20 year old educated mind can't fathom. I bet your worldly travels were to peaceful, sovereign countries. You ever starred down the barrel of firearm to defend what you love. Don't you dare ever ask me to leave this country. I work for US government. I see the inner and outer operations of it everyday. The only thing you know is what you're getting out of a text book. Dig your nose out of those pages and get a dose of reality. I defend our constitution and have taken an oath to do so. Last thing I'm gonna say, I see your brand new to ETHD. You better get some tougher skin and get your feelings off your sleeve if your gonna stick around. Especially if your talk like you been talking.

It actually encourages me to see you stand for what you believe, I haven't met many people that do or will.
I will listen/read anyone's opinion because knowledge can be gleaned from all of them. Honestly I can say that I am learning from you at this moment, some things that I may use and others I will not.
By your own admittance you DO live by a text that was written by a mortal man..."LONG LIVE THE CONSTITUTION". If you stood firmly on thie idea that "nothing written by another mortal shall bind me" then what keeps you from committing crime, getting a loan, buying a house or any number of things that require binding agreements and contracts, or are those made to be broken? I would like some clarification of what you actually ment by those statements.
Age has little to do with this conversation, life experience does however. Usually someone's age can be determined by how and what the communicate to others. It just so happens that most of the people that have lived longer have experienced more than those that haven't.

Before you judge me, I've been in multiple countries for more than a layover so don't put your foot in your mouth on that one. I've defended this country and sacrificed the first year of my kids life for the war against Iraq not to mention the humanitarian missions I've been deployed on. I am all for the constitution and we were founded Under God. That's been being done away with for years now just like our rights have been trampled on. As a citizen you voice your opinion through voting, it's a right many men have died to defend. This country is going to $hit so whether you wanna sit back and watch it, do something about it, or change with it is simply your prerogative. Simply put, this country is rapidly doing away with the principles we were founded upon.
