Here's my new hunting rig.  Her name is "Opie", formerly known as "Oprah".  My youngest daughter thought it distasteful for her name to be Oprah.  I thought it was a perfect name for a beautiful, intelligent, black a$$.  In trying to get along and play well with others, I caved and re-named her Opie, unfortunately she now has gender issues.

I have never owned a mule before and I was actually looking for a young mule so I could "train" it how I wanted.  A good friend told me that in this endeavor, one of us should know what we are doing and since I don't, I went with an 11 year old that has been hog hunted, coon hunted, used as a pack animal on elk hunts and lots of trail rides.

By the way, the saddlebags are insulated Grin

She does jump.  I built a gizmo that will hold some square tubing and so far she will jump about 3 feet, over that she sets her parking brake, again if I knew what I was doing we might have different results.

This gal is awesome!  I went for a ride this morning with her and most of it was in timber along a creek near my house.  She is a bulldozer in the woods.  I have a nice gash in my left ear from me not ducking low enough.  I have found that I can literally lay on her neck and she will go thru just about any timber she can get her head under.  She appears to be the ultimate 4-wheel drive.

If she's been trained to jump fences, you might try laying a blanket over what she jumps.....Most train them this way so they wont jump out while turned in a pasture......I've hunted with several that would jump a 5 srand barb wire fence with a blanket thrown over it, but you couldn't make them jump it without......By the way looks good, hope she works out for you.....

It's hard to see from the angle, but there is an old lightweight saddle blanket over the tubing.  She learned if she walks up to the tubing and bumps it with her chest , it falls and she can step over it Grin   I had to rig the tubing so it was a bit more secure.  I'm having a ball with her and have been wondering why I've waited so long to do this!
