the scientific name is Gingus ringus because they think they are gingascon. we used to get 9 dollars apiece for them there were thousands in the hillcountry. They got some kind of distemper but are makeing a come back. I had 2 jack russels and my buddy had 2 bordercollies that made us about a grand a week in the early 80's.

The market is better than yall think. My buddy bought a new truck last year he skips the middle man fleshes, dries and ships to the auctions. Selling green the middleman tripples his money.

true but you still have to wait 4-6 months before you get your money, shipped last year and got my cats sold within the month, had to wait another 5 months for my fox to sell, they shipped them to the canada market to be sold...I flesh, strech and dry all my fur but when I go through all the troubble of fleshing and drying and the same pelt that is just green is sold for 2 dollars less then the dried pely you kinda wonder...the other thing to consider is location..north texas cats are in a higher demand then west texas cats(were im located) the difference is hugh! take 2 similar cats and the more northern cat will sell for 100.00 more then its southern cousin due to having better fur quality. there are pros and cons to shipping or selling green..im going to get off my soap box now...lol  Grin

Being from the East I've never seen a ringtail in person, only mounted ones. I always thought that they were the prettiest critter out there, sure wish we had 'em around Alabama,....I'd mount a few and sit them around. Don't let that one get away. You're a lucky lady to have caught it.

That IS a big cat.....not many here in the SE ever get that size. Our cats here have little spotting on the back...lots on the belly, but it kinda plays out up the sides and on the back. I need to get a really nice ringtail and mount it. I did taxidermy as a second job for over 30 years.....a little ringtail would be pretty on the mantle.
