I've been getting 180 degree readings from my Quick Track receiver lately.  It'll show the dog in front of and behind you with about the same signal strength.  Am I using it wrong?  Any help would be appreciated.

This is common with all telemetry from time to time.  Read the manual to fiqure out how to determine which way the dogs are.

Lesson number one grasshopper.

It's the old folding yagi, not the quick shot or the short one.  Reason I ask is when I first started using it (I bought it used) I never had the problem, but this morning I was tracking my dog and couldn't really determine which way he was till he walked up behind me.

Thanks.

Try changing the battery in the receiver, i've had them act up when it gets a little low.

If that doesn't work, send it in to Quick Track and have them take a look. You should not have any 180 problems on the big yagi antenna.

Sounds like you have the gain up too high.  If it does it again put it on close or medium and start with the gain down low.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help - I appreciate it.  Battery shows good, but they're cheap I'll change it anyways.  One last question and I'll quit bugging y'all.  The guy I bought it from told me to match the gain to the channel.  So for example if you're tracking channel 4 the gain should be set to four.

Again - thanks.

No... the gain knob is used to increase the signal strength. I always start on long and bring the gain up from 0 to 1... if you get a good beep, then switch to medium or close.

You may have had the gain up too high and the signal was so strong it was reading no matter which direction you were facing?

That would be a big negative on that one.  If you have a 6000 model and you are tracking a 217.255 collar then you would set the black click numbers to 7 2 5 and then adjust the chanel around the 4-6 mark to dial in the collar as closely as possible and then start with the gain as low as possible.  Hope this helps.

Use as little gain as needed.

To figure true direction when you are getting two reading that are 180 apart,  move to another spot.  Your dogs are where the direction of the one of the orginal 180 was pointing and where the new signal is pointing.  I would bet that the dogs are close when  this is happening.  If you can get a strong siganal on the short range switch, just put the system up.  On short range you should be able to hear the dogs if they are bayed and they should be able to hear you if you call.  Wind will affect your ability to hear.

You can email me and I can talk you thru this.  I doubt if you have equimpment problems, but I can be wrong.
