Got a 4 year old bmc. My main strike dog. Just started opening when chasing a hog. Any suggestions on how to fix it or am I stuck?

Well if you're running her with other dogs, one of the other dogs may be getting ahead of her and she's doing it because she's falling behind.  A lot of cur dogs do this after a hog breaks, mine does, but it's not a bark, it's a whine.  As long as she's stopping the hogs I wouldn't worry about it.  I sure wouldn't try fixing it with a shock collar.

I figure a hog knows he's being chased anyway so what does it hurt.  But it will make it a lot easier to train younger dogs.

That's the problem Haven't stopped a hog since. Struck about 10 in the last two hunts. Maybe I just got into some runners. She sure is a fine strike dog. I hope I can still gt them stopped. These hogs that I been in have had no pressure on em in years but I'll keep trying.

Ok was just asking not trying to be a smart butt .  Mine do the same thing I dont even worry about it no more as long as they are not mouthing on track before finding one.  I say mine do it some do some dont.  Once the hog breaks and they can see it they will yip some dont really bother me much then soon as he is out of site they will shut up again.  I dont think it makes to much difference once they already found it and bayed it some and it breaks if it is gonna run its gonna run anyway know what i mean .

Does she get quiet after a while if the race goes on for a ways?  Its pretty common for cur dogs to bark when a hog breaks then quiet down if they have to trail the hog again.  They might keep barkng if its a hot race and can see the hog.

Ok some of you say that once a hog breaks you don't mind if a dog is open because the hog already knows the dogs are there but let me ask this if you had a crazy man intent on whooping you chasing you and you could hear him yelling behind you would you stop or if you could no longer hear him wouldn't you atleast slow down or stop to see if you could hear or see your chaser I don't know about you but if something is chasing me and i can hear it behind me Im not slowing down or stopping

If the hog has running on his mind, he's running.  I understand your point but I dont think it makes much difference.  Just make sure the dogs that you are hunting have enough bottom to stay with him through hell and back, he'll eventually bay up.

PEEWEE

Thats the ideal hog dog for sure.  But a man is gonna cull a lotta lotta good dogs trying to make his whole pack straight shut up silent .

I myself will not cull a great find dog are a great bay dog just for doing that .
