about 9 months ago i lost a very good dog in the woods and after about a month of looking gave up the search. last night a friend called and said he had heard that a guy lost his dog during hunting the tourny and had shown upat one of our friends house, he called the # on the coller and when the man showed up,they began to talk dogs.the man said that he hads heard that the dog had once belonged to a guy named phillip. hearing this my friend said i know phillip ,called me and told me what the dog looked like. gave the man a call and told him this might be my dog and without hesitation he drove the dog to my house to give it back. he had purchased dog from a man i know who will probably get his butt kicked when i see him who had told him that he purchased the dog from me. this was not true in fact , he found the dog removed my coller and failed to call me. on another occasion while hunting at night i ran into this man in the woods and he had my dogs leashed up and was heading to his truck, undoughtedly to steal them also. good thing i caught him. i say all this mainly to say that despite paying a lot of money for the dog thisgood honest man did the right thing..   thank you sir

That was a hell of a good guy that brought your dog back.

As for the dude that stole your dog, I'd call the cops on him, if they don't do anything, then handle it "in house" lol

man its hard to say what a guy would do in that situation. that is wrong on so many levels. i might have to be staying all night at county or not who knows. you may just have to let him know that you know and tread lightly................"WATCH HIM FOLKS HES A FAIRLY DANGEROUS MAN" Grin

as for the other guy it i would problably have to pay him what i could to even it all out for him.

Yeah we had a similar situation recently... We lost 2 dogs on a hunt about a month ago. Some people we knew were in the area a week and a half later building a fence and had a brindle dog with a tracking collar and collar, swim a creek and load up in the truck. They quickly realize that this isnt one of our dogs, and call both numbers to no avail. They not being able to keep the dog bring it to one of us to hold. The original owner of the dog finally calls back and drives down to pick it up. As him and my buddy are bs'ing about hog hunting, the Man quickly relates a story that back during the tournament he was traveling between 2 small towns in Freestone county and he picked up dog out on the highway. Apparently it chased a hog across the highway and stopped right in front of the man, but had no collars. He said he walso went to the local feed stroe and left his name, number and all the information about the dog, etc. It was also a red brindle colored dog. Well we have friends in Freestone county that have a few red brindle cur dogs, soo our buddy just checking to make sure made a quick call and found out that they HAD had a brindle dog missing. Gone from their house! The man quickly getting nervous, takes a call and leaves. A few hours later they(Freestone County) finally get a hold of the Man... They offer him $200 for finding the dog and to drive 3 hours that night to come get her, etc. The man  crawsfishes and says he has to leave for work for 30 days, blah, balh, etc.... then he starts saying its not a red brindle, its a yellow brindle and on and on. He wont even let the boys drive down and see if its their dog. And finally quit answering their calls.. last weekend after police involvement, thankfully the dog was returned. Crazy how it all worked out, it was just pure luck that we ever found out who took her

If the local law will not help you call the cattlemans assocation they will help that is what they are there for you do not have to be a member for them to help you they will work harder than the local law. They will atleast will help the other man get his money back and will start an investagation  very quick

This is the exact reason that I have taken to branding my dogs. Brand is registered in Harris and Leon county as well as with Crimestoppers.  I believe that a person is less likely to steal a clearly identifiable dog.

Hope I can find out who the "good man" is so I can buy his lunch if I ever meet him!

As for the dog thief? A word of advice given to me by one of our local police officers.

Let the law handle it if they can. If they cant just remember two words " NO WITNESSES".

Id bet my last roll of toilet paper it wasn't the first time he has happily sold someone else's dog!!!
Probably wont be his last either.

A long time ago I wrongly accused a man of stealing a dog because of here say! I felt really bad about that you can run a mans repetation real fast so make sure that you get both men at the same spot together and watch the one studder or make up lies before you spread his name all over the board.I have some friends that are called outlaws because of there last name one family member has ruined it for all of them these guy are great guys just an example becareful where you throw names.
