you're absolutely correct, it is a jam up feed.  I just have some qualms about falling for their bogus attempt to sell less food for the same money.

Alot of brands or switching to 40lb bags. so say it is so the ladies can handle it better aleast thats what the feed store told me. i feed PMI K9 advantage but it isn't very cheap $ 30 a bag for 50#

Are there that many women out there who cannot lift 50lbs, don't have a husband, son or nephew that owns and hunts her own working dogs that the company decided to drop only 10lbs off the bag weight.  Sounds like a giant can of bullspit to me...

We sell sportsmix at our feed store and feed the blue.
And the word part about their 50 lbs for 40lb price is they don't sell a 40lb bag

Such a blatant scam printed right there on the bag.  I'm not sure I want to support such a dishonest company.  I guess the search for my next dogfood starts today.

I think it means you are getting 50 lbs for the same price as the competitors 40 lbs.....

the blue bag has always been 50 pounds ans sometimes they would add 5 pounds for free and this was the advertised special... other times they had 2 pounds extra...

seems when all the other dog food companies started increasing their prices Sportsmix raised theres some too. Then they got the brilliant idea to put on the bag 50 pounds of feed at a 40 pound price...what this means to me is that their price is comparable in price and dog food quality to other companies that sell 40 pound bags of dog food. For the money Sportsmix is good...I think Victor is a better feed but I think the bags are forty pounds and a little more expensive...But the digestability is higher so less poop and less feeding might come close to balancing out...And if it is not real close then less clean up might be worth the difference in the money...but no one close to me sells Victor so I can not really make the comparison..I am just going by what the ingredients say on both bags and the ratings...

I may be an exception, but I think the average American would rather see them print "Still a 50lb bag" or "50lbs of food for 24.99" instead of seemingly trying to outsmart people, or using some uppity advertising special to fool us dumb folks.  I know it fooled me for a while.

yea...you are an exception cause you hunt "Lacy's"...JK Smiley

It got me too. I went to the store to buy 3 50 pound bags and I saw the advertisement and I thought I was getting some extra dog food so I bought five bags instead and then when loading the dog food I caught on to what it really was saying... Shocked Grin its been a long run with that "SPECIAL"...

haha, I really only have one lacy, and I rarely take her bc she is incredibly immature and apparently has some strange sort of doggie seperation anxiety and wont leave my side unless the other dogs bay.  But, she works her butt off in a pen and in the woods, she just won't hunt on her own yet.  And right now, I have a younger cur dog that is turning on so much faster so he gets fed more tracks because of the promise he shows.  I am looking forward to her maturing and getting out of the "puppy" stage, I think she will make one hell of a hog dog!  but, either way, she always has a spot here at the house bc of her great nature and off the charts intelligence.

btt though, I like the sportmix, they just made me feel dumb today.  I don't like feeling dumb.  It makes me angry.

I really don't think I could find the same quality for the same price, so I guess they'll win...

I was going to ask your stores carry a 50 lb bag? Here TSC only carries a 40 lb bag in black or blue doesn't matter.

I switched from victor to sportsmix (blue bag), because of victor's piss poor results. And, I don't think I have upgraded. I'm still having weight and energy issues. Had fecal test done vet said cleanest she had ever seen. My feed store only carries blue bag, so I'm goin to see if he will get the black or something. Anybody have any suggestions I'm lost I'm feeding 4 1/2 cups to 6 cups to 35 to 70 pound dogs and I have some that look like they haven't ate in a month and that isn't me! Any advice?

Make sure they are wormed.

Might try beefing up the fat content somehow, I've heard of rice bran oil, used cooking oil, bacon grease, trimmed fat from local butcher...

Halfbreed posted an article recently on probiotics and such that helps the dogs digest the food they are getting.  Might try searching for it, or pm him maybe.

this time of year if the dog does not have a warm bed he will burn lots of calories trying to stay warm..short coated dogs will burn more than longer coated dogs...

If you want to put weight on a dog you need to feed a high fat feed.

My dogs are all full bodied and plenty fat, haha.  There are a couple I actually need to lean up a bit, they don't get hunted as much as the others, I may try the orange bag...

The ole pot lickers, are starting to figure out how to eat the small chunks from the blue bag.
