world conflicts have always had an effect on higher fuel prices, especially if the immediate countries surrounding the raw material sources have a chance of attacking the products coming from or going to the surrounding countries. i agree that price and demand are a big factor to rising fuel prices, but WHY pay to ship fuel from the middle east, refine it and sell it our own people for more than what it would cost to refine our own fuels and sell it local? the middle east has what is called sweet curde which provides a better fuel than non sweet cude, but if we are paying to ship in crude, refine it and sell to us when we could use our own product. that doesnt make good economic sence for the american consumer. big business and big brother live high on the hog while thier electors stuggle. if the government had to actually pay for thier fuel out of thier own pockets, they would sing a different tune. we have to pay thier fuel, food and housing bills along with our own bills plus pay for all the worthless free-loaders and illegals bills. the american people are getting the long hard shaft with no spit. as was said we elected them, its time we took them outa power and put people in those positions to help ALL americans, not just those who have the deeper pockets
LOL! You know, I agree, but how are you going to tell the realest from the phonies??? The people that everyone thought would do a good job got elected, and now that they're there everyone is saying it’s not the right people... I don't understand this. From what I've seen in elections, the "good" people to vote for never end up in office. They don't have the backing they need to compete with these other guys. Since they just changed that law about big business donating money to campaigns, it is not going to be easy for the little guy to win. So how to tell the fakes from the real especially if they don't even have a chance to be heard! It comes across to me a one big screwed up circle! And the people in power already take complete advantage of their situation. Most of the positions of power were not designed to be a job, they were a service! They didn't come with 401K and lifelong medical benifits... You served your term and then became a part of the community again! The politicians are getting too comfortable and that is what needs to be changed...

Those people kill me! I bet you half of the Ocuppy protest don't even realize what they are there for... LOL! This happens everytime there is some type of crisis over there. That is something that has been going on for decades, and if anyone thinks that its gona change now I don't know what to say to them other than to get up, get out, and do something!

We don't produce oil cheaper than the middle east. The could open the valve, flood the market, and stop drilling in its tracks in the US. They choose not to.

There is probably more to this news story as to why the oil is getting sold like that other than trying to go around the govt. It may be that there is a country that does not have refineries so they buy only refined oil. They probably use a small amount but pay a premier. I am sure the US imports some thing from them in return. There are all kinds of little countries that have some rare mineral or spme thing the US needs so we export oil to them in trade.

Conservatives spin this stuff too to hype there cause. It is an election year. It 89 degrees in Feb lets blame Obama for that too. Grin

Ryan, u r 100% correct on telling the fakes from the honest. Answer to your question would be, remove that goverment too and continue to do so till we have a stable system of government. We as a free america need pull out of the U.N. pull out of NATO n slow the process of free money to illegals and free loader. We can not afford as a country to completely isolate ourselves, but we need to distant ourselves till we can actually enforce immigration laws, trade laws and start removing laws that are for corpriate gains for overseas commerce just bc the third world countries use children and force labor to assymble and manufacture goods at a tenth of what it cost the american people to do. We need to do as our forefathers did and remove the tyrants from and STOP the greed of the government. I dont remeber verbatum, but it said before in this post about the tree of liberty and pruning the dead weight from the limbs to allow for new growth.

ha ha i knew the occupyer statement would bring out some response .  i like the occupy movement for one reason and one reason only . because it opened up debate about problems in our country regardless that they were unorganized and had no idea what they were about or doing . it got on the news and let alot of people realize there are things needed to be fixed in this country's economic circles . and the gov. responded by clamping down on illeagal home forclosiers from the big money banks . i think i heard where some of those people that lost their homes are gonna get a couple hundred dollars each for their troubles  Shocked

Eric, you and Bino make good points...it is about supply and demand and how much the consumer is willing to pay or even afford to pay.

I remember back in the 1970's when OPEC decide to cut back on supply and raise the ptice of oil. They shot thereselves in the foot because as they raised the price the US and world economies could not adjust fast enough and we had a major recession. When a recession hits many people are out of work and the majority that are still working can not afford to buy much gas because inflation is eating away at their profits... OPEC shot thereselves in the foot because this caused an oil glut and the price came down to almost nothing...

OPEC is very mindful of the economy now and they want to keep the prices up as high as the gobal economies can handle...that is good business for them...

But I do agree that we need to fix what is broke here in the USA.

If we could outlaw lobbying it would solve alot of our problems.

If all government politicians retired on a small retirement salary and it was supplemented with Social Security our Social Security System would probably get fixed...

info below was copied from an email I received...

Wages

Salary of retired US Presidents ............. $450,000  FOR LIFE

Salary of House/Senate members ..........           $174,000  FOR LIFE
Salary of Speaker of the House .............$223,500  FOR LIFE
Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders .....  $193,400  FOR LIFE

Average salary of a soldier DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN - $38,000

Average income for seniors on SOCIAL SECURITY - $12,000

The government makes many times more in taxes than the oil companies make on a gallon of gas.

This administration stopped the Canadan pipeline that would let us refine the oil in Beaumont, Tx.. Now they are going to ship it by rail that Warren Buffet owns to the coast. Then they will ship it to China and they will reifine it and ship it back. Then we will buy it  from them at a much higher price.

Lots of the oil we get is from Brazil from rigs owned by George Soros --Obamas big time buddy. We cannot drill off our own coast nor drill on public land.

I remember going through this exact same thing when Carter was in office. You had to stand in line to buy gas and then could only get it every other day. Sometimes they had a 10 gallon limit on it.

Another thing is that we have at least 15 different blends of gasoline in the country. We need only one and that would save a bunch of money and increse supply.

I remember those rationing days...had to wait in a long line to get ten gallons of gas...and While sitting in line was hoping that they didn't run out before I got my ten...

Obama is not going to lower oil prices. That is a given. The higher oil is the more practical ethanol, solar, and all his other so called clean energy resources appear. Kind of like fixing the economy. The poorer he can keep the people the more they are dependent on the govt. If you expect any thing different you better get out and vote.

Your falling for Obama's propaganda. There are a few big companies that take in those profits. There are far more small mom and pop operations than there are Exxons. Let's not forget that alot of that oil being sold by the big bad oil company is owned privatly by mineral owners like you and I. We benefit from higher prices too. In fact in Texas we are all tied to O&G one way or another. Would you rather have 5$ gas and a job or 3$ gas and no job. The tax revenue that O&G creates is what keeps most of our small towns and schools afloat.

got this email...

Date:               January 24, 2012
To:                  Valero Employees

From
Subject:          Keystone XL Pipeline Statement

As you know, the Obama administration decided last week to deny TransCanada’s application to ship crude oil via the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the Gulf Coast. Valero has planned to be a shipper and purchaser of that oil since 2008, and obviously we were disappointed in the decision. We issued a statement in response to questions from the media, and I wanted to share it with you in case you get questions from friends or business partners, and so that you would know why Valero supports the Keystone XL pipeline. This is the statement:
Despite the uncertainty and political fighting over the Keystone XL pipeline, Valero has continued to invest in its U.S. refining operation.  In 2011 we spent nearly $3 billion on projects, and for 2012 our capital expenditure budget is over $3 billion. These expenditures are keeping our employees on the job and putting additional people to work.  To reference two of our refineries, at Port Arthur, Texas, we have 1,600 contractors working on an expansion project, and at St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, we have another 1,000 contractors working on a separate project.  We need this kind of economic activity to accelerate to help all Americans. This illustrates why the federal government’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline is so absurd. There are pipelines in every neighborhood all across America. The administration’s decision was not about pipelines, it was about the misguided beliefs that Canadian oil sands development should be stopped and that fossil fuel prices should increase to make alternative energy more attractive. Instead, we should be impressed with how well the oil sands engineering and recovery technology has advanced, and the economic benefits this development brings.  Having more oil available in the marketplace has the potential to lower prices for consumers.  As an independent refiner, Valero buys all of the oil we process. Due to the administration’s misguided policies, refiners like Valero will have to buy more oil from other sources outside the U.S. and Canada. Consumers will bear the additional shipping cost, not to mention the additional greenhouse gas emissions and political risks. With all the issues facing our country, it is absolutely unbelievable our federal government says no to a company like TransCanada that is willing to spend over $7 billion and put Americans to work on a pipeline.  The administration’s decision throws dirt into the face of our closest ally and largest trading partner.

The point above is that it is not about pipelines as many pipelines cross the Ogallala Aquifer, in the Great Plains region, and, in fact, there is already significant oil and gas production in the area covered by the aquifer. This is politics at its worst. Thanks for your support.
