I know exactly what you mean. I don't know anyone personally that has or would even consider it.

I had that problem a few months ago I was looking for a good female to breed to my male to or a female puppy. All I could find was 500 and up for puppies. In my opinion they just want the money and that is way to big of a gamble to pay that for a puppy

I bought five and they gave me a bulk rate discount.
So I only paid $ 950 each.
But these beautiful papers with the pretty tile inlayed borders more than make up for the lack of hunt in them.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

If the breeder honestly believes the pups are that good and then values them at that much, they should come with some form of performace guarantee. The guarantee should have some cut offs in it such as the buyer must maintain certain health standards and so on. When hard earned money is spent it should have some form of buyer reassurance.

I almost did a few months ago, it's a good thing that I didnt get paid when I was suposed to, and a fellow Hog Dogger on this forum warned me about him . Let me say, that the only reason that I was considering it, is because he advertised that his pups are garenteed to work or he will replace them, and when you consider all the time and money invested in a pup and If they turn out to be cull's, it would be worth it!. I should have known better, even the best bred litters seldom produce litters without culls in any!! working breed, and if it's a cull, why would you want it back? to sell to someone else. Now having said that, let me say that I believe that $500.00 is a fair price to pay for a pup when the breeder has spent years working hard to produce a yard of good dogs, and if you do get a good one, you have a dog worth far more than that! anymore and your just in it for the money!!!

I am kinda the opposite. I say the buyer is gonna get exactly what he asked for. Hell price em at $20,000 each.
Let the seller take a picture with all the cash layed out like a trophy shot on the hood of their truck while throwing a gang sign saying " Cant fix stupid but you can profit off em" Hahaha.
The buyer can take a picture making paper airplanes out of the pedigree while wearing lipstick and highheels with the dog asleep under the fourwheeler.
PLEASE DON'T DO ANY OF THIS GUYS. Most of you wouldn't look cool with blue eyeshadow. Lol

why pay 500 or 1000 for a pup when there are some good deals on a dog that is already hunting...the other day a bluetick about a year old that to me sounded like it was on its way to being one heck of a dog and he was being advertised as "FOR FREE". The ad said he trashed on coon and sevral other animals and he ranged out 800 yard loops...man I almost made that call...but the dog was open so it was a cull to this man...to me it depends on how open and when does he open???
another man was advertising a 5 month old pup that had a lot of training and he was already finding pigs and hunting with the big dogs...he was half cur and half pit and he was for 500 dollars...that pup would probably need to be hunted with a vest but I thought he might be a keeper for someone who likes that type of pup...I could have found a place in my yard for this one...

Randy Wright gave me a pup from a litter that sold the litter mates to it for $750 to $1000. I bought 2 pups of Craig for waaaaaay less than Randy's price and Craigs dogs were leaps and bounds better dogs than the pup Randy gave me or the 2 grown dogs my brother-n-law bought off Randy dog big money. Not saying Randy's dogs are bad , just saying price had nothing to do with quality or the prices would have been turned around. I think this
A- if dogs from a line are really that good you won't ever see them for sale cause there are 15 guys waiting to get there chance at one, be they coon dogs, cat dogs, bird dogs, rabbit dogs, police dogs or what ever dogs
B- no pup i worth a $1000 of hard earned cash to me and if you have $1000.00 to spend on pups I've got some things I need to sell you just call me, if I don't have it I'll find it quick
Men who breed dogs for the love of the dogs seldom consider money as a factor when breeding a litter, those that think money usually have there true motives bubble up and go public after a while.
( p.s. Best dogs I've ever owned were real real cheap or even free )

I agree with all you said...long time ago I got caught up on the wright curs and sometried tried to sell me 2 females that I stumbled on all night...also his best do looked nice but he wasn't what I considered to be a real good dog...
I reckon he has some good dogs out there but I wonder what "good" really means to the ones who say it about those dogs???
but some of the best dog men usually give away what they don't keep or sell for a small fee if they even make them available to the public...

to me a pup is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
If someone wants to pay that kind of money for pup, so be it.

Let me start by saying $1000.00 is to much for any pup, but if your not willing to pay a fair price for a reg. pup, there are plenty of cross breeds out there, that are available that are probably better dogs than the pure breds! why do you think so many people are doing it, because none! of the breeds being used today were originally developed to hunt hogs with. Maybe some feed their dogs a scoop of Ol Roy once a week whether they need it or not,LOL, but to my knowledge it cost money to feed a yard of dogs!, if you think that breeders are raking in the dough, your wrong.

Id pay that for a pup if it was what I WANT. That's cheaper than raising one to hunting age. Must sell some or they couldn't ask it. Supply and demand.

You way way off, there a guy down the road from me never owned his own strain of curs the whole time i knew him, now he got wetbacks rasing the pups in old cotten gin pens, figure it out, they sell 2 litters a year off one gyp, say they have 10 pups each, thats 20 pups to sell, that 20 thousand from one breeder and think other guy is charging $500 each for pups so one gyp gets $10,000, you think about the math again and tell me where they are losing money?? A cur dog averages a 1 pound of dog food a day 365 a year? 20 shots from a wholesale vet supply $1.50 each , they making more money than with cattle, thats why you dont see him with hog dogs, the gyps are too valabule to hunt and get off the production line, yet people will go there and buy pups and not a hog dog or gun on the placelol Ask somebody why they dont shoot hogs, usually its because they can not own a gun legally!!!lol
