Hello guys, first post ,but have been keeping up with you for awhile. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have tried out any of the map downloads on the astro 220? I'd like to get some feed back on it before I buy any. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

I have the map card for the south east part of the country. It is wonderful. I highly recommend it. Conkey's Hound Supply is the best to deal with when it comes to the Garmins.

I generally get about 2.25 miles with just the unit. If I switch to the roof top, I can get 5 miles. However, I would say 4 miles no problem. This is in North Florida.

I love my Garmin 220 as well and is hard to imagine hunting without it. The farthest mine has tracked is around 1.7 miles as well but it all depends what type of cover you are huinting. I imagine once the trees green back up the distance will drop some more.

I must admit I have never been to Texas. However, based off of my experience I find both of these figures to be the exception to the rule. I have never come close to these figures. I do have a question for both of you though. Were you on the dog screen when you saw the distance? If so, it tells the distance to the last known location of the collar from your current location. It is possible to turn the collar off and go 1000 miles away. If you turn the Garmin Astro 220 on at this new 1000 mile away location, it is going to show the collar where you last tracked it. However, it is not tracking with 1000 mile communication. It is simply going off the units memory of the last plotted location of the collar. All that being said, if you were actually looking at the individual collar's screen, and it still showed complete signal communication, then I am very impressed. I myself, have never got more than around 5 miles. I look forward to your responces. Regards, Josh

Josh, Thanks for saving me from typing that. Mine is good for almost a mile in most places. The range dosent bother me very much because it wil maek the last known location of the dog, so you just start walking and it will pick back up. I have had some trobles with looseing signal at about 300-400 buck it is only for a few seconds.
