Ok... I just picked up an Amerigo. Thanks Longshot and Uglydog for making it happen!

I wanted to get the boards input on this though. I have raised an APBT. I have raised other types of dogs from puppies as well. I am also trying my hand in raising some cur/cat pups to hopefully end up finding some hogs. BUT this seems different than the rest...

What are some things that people do when raising ABs, Dogos, and Amerigos?

Basic thoughts and experiences on the breed and Playing routine, feeding routine, obedience training, etc...

Thanks for the help.

This is PJ. (Pickle Jr.)

Grin Thank you and yes she does. I think she'll be bigger than Baus, my APBT.

I would make sure to keep her socialized with other dogs and get a excellent handle on her at a early age, but im sure you already know that....  Wink

x2 i get compliments all the time about the handle on my cd. i started him on a lead the day i got him. and then took him everywhere i could to make him not spooky around people and dogs. i also took him on a few hunts when he was young to teach him manners in the ranger box. a trash breaker is a great tool to help with all of this. also training them to come to you no matter what else is going on is a big plus if a bay breaks. i like raising cds because you can spoil them and love on them without affecting how they work. good luck with your pup ryan

Thanks guys... She is only 8 weeks, so I figured I'd give her a week of just getting used to us before I started "training"... I've just never raised any ABs, much less known any personally. I guess this is just another step on the learning curve huh? lol!

Knowing the line like I do, more than likely she will mature slower than her male littermates.  Be patient and give her time and she will let you know when she's ready for a full time job.  Socialize her a lot while she's at her most influential age.  If she shows any shyness around strangers, start purposely taking her around as many strangers and people as possible.

Duly noted... Will definately do that Bryant. Thanks. She is a hand full, thats for sure. She is huge for an 8 week old puppy!!! LOL! Not used to this size.

Thanks Texasguy... That is was the plan when getting this type of dog... I'm wondering how she will progress, but just have to give her enough time to do so.

And doggonit, let's just say I got lucky... I wouldn't have been able to get her on my own. Grin

I nbelieve you have alot of good advice, the one thing we breed for is great manners and temperment, sometimes is considered "soft" and usually dont require a "stick, or e-collar, or any physical reprimands. Just socializing, and "teaching" what you expect, teaching boundaries. I believe thes pups will not be as Soft as some have been in the past and they are not as Timid, and Bryant is correct she will let you know when she is ready but I will put money its going to be earlier than my last bunch. Her brother is already Gamey after Monster Chickens in the yard!!!! lol,

I hope she is everything you ever wanted. Courtneys female is a Holey terror already!

I got one of the litter mates to your pup. Got her at 6 weeks old. She's a handfull but really smart. Started workin with her as soon as I got her. She's gonna have a great handle on her. We work her on a lead and she's got to where she will stay right beside me and when I stop she sits and waits till I move. I take her just about everywhere with me to get her used to being in the truck and around people and other dogs. I'm gonna wait till she's 12-15 weeks to start her on some some small shoats. In my opinion working on her handle at an early age is the main thing. Having a great handle on a cd is one of my main things. A cd with a bad handle is a pain and can become a problem when you've got a bay a long way off and the dogs pulling you the entire way.

i have a 9 month old dogo and best dog ive ever owend hands down !!!  took him everywhere and introduced him to as many people and dogs i could ..... i thought my wife ruined him by holding and petting him constantly , but dont worry about spoiling them cause they are like jeckle and hyde when it comes to hunting !!!  he'll lick you to death but becomes a death machine on a hog !!!

Yes, Uglydog has been breeding them many, many years before the term Bullgo popped up.
