I'm not sure how accurate this is but I have heard that a dog being on concrete all the time will sometimes mess up there smelling abilities. But I'm sure if you clean out the kennels regularly the issue wouldn't be a problem. JMO

Nails being filed down is only thing I can think of. If they get too far down they will bleed like a stuck pig... esspecially on an older dog. JMO

It is pretty smooth I wanted the brushed but it is easier to clean so I'm not complaining. Get you some turpintine and just squirt a little where they have to stand in it to eat works.

Have had dogs on cement for the 10+ years I've been hunting and have never touched a dogs foot because of the cement. Since every one is saying what they have heard.... I heard cement makes a dogs pad tougher.

Jim how did you secure the platform to the kennels? In other words, what is holding the platform up besides the fence?

The 2 x 4's run through the kennel, through the fence panels. They are spaced just far enough apart so the barrel sits in them but not fall through. Screw the barrel to the 2 x 4's. Cut a piece of plywood for the platform and screw to the top of 2 x 4's. You can see a little better in this pic how the 2 x 4's just slide through the fencing.

You are right on the money friend, Ol drew called me today and I told him the same thing hell if anything it make them callus up lol never had any problem with it and it don't make a dog blow pads quick, mine smell the same track as anyones dog and I wash pens everyday also.
