We decided to make a hunt around the home turf try and keep the dogs legged up for next weekend’s Bumpers hunt and the following tournament at General Sams in Huntsville. It was me, Big E, Marshall, Andrew Duffin, Travis, Zack and Colton.  One of our land owners, Scott has the hog hunting fever and really wanted to catch one. So we hit up two different spots hoping to find some squealers and stretch the dogs out. Well come along about 12;00 those spots didn’t have any hogs on them; so rather than take a goose egg we hit one last honey hole up just a few miles down the road. Dropped the dogs and Boogie and Briar had rolled out making two big loops. I had Drake, Peanut and Goose with me... we kept bumping along not seeing much sign when finally across this cow pasture I come across a wallow that looks semi fresh and all the dogs perk up. Goose was back trailing him nose down while Drake winded him the other direction.  Peanut and him both get in there and about that time they both blow out of there and go 20 yards to the next little briar patch and sit down hammering. It was cool getting to watch all this as it was right out in the open, which doesn’t happen much for us around home. I wasn’t 40 yards from them when they bayed and I could tell it was a good hog. Drake gets a lot rougher when he knows Im around and Goose doesn’t have much back up, so the first time that hog rushed them they but the brakes on him and sat down on each ear. It was easy for once, and I just walked up there and flipped him no problem. I was sitting on him tied when the gang showed up. This was a very good barr hog in 280#+ range with some hellacious teeth.

You could tell everyone was excited but upset they didn’t get in on the action. As we’re bs’ing around and taking pictures; Briar bays by hisself at 613 yards further in. So we head to him with everyone, hell bent on getting scott in on a good hog. We get in there and get some great footage of the dogs working a good boar hog around 250#. Made sure everyone was ready and sent Redman in to seal the deal. It took a minute but Scott and Andrew got it done. Andrew actually grabbed the hogs tail; it was his first time to grab a hog by hisself and then Scott came in for relief. We gathered the dogs out before we ended up on another big hog and called it a day. Great little run, especially when we were on the verge of getting skunked.

Great hogs guys! I know Scott and his dad, in my previous job I used to rent them construction equipment, they are good people.

Lol that's Boogie is in the picture at top! Those black dogs sure are good, but the red dogs are the real stars. Briar is progressing great, at 2.5 he's as nice a dog as I could ask for, his motor is getting bigger And his nose colder every hunt

Thanks everyone!!
