newb hog hunter

hey yall i am new to hog hunting and i have been a coon hunter all of my life coons have been killed out and hogs are taking over so i been fooling with my 3 out of my 4 coon dogs on hogs i got a big redbone he fought a hog for over 1 hour by his self  in the hog pens he will bay the heck out of them and try to caught them next dog i been fooling with is a Walker/cur cross she is super quick and grabs the ear and a smokey river bluetick that will hit the nuts when the hogs get spining does anyone got any training tips to help me and know where the cheapest cut collars or vest are i am unenployed and cant afford much any kind of tips will help thanks

Go get some 4" tow strap off the highway, a red hot nail and a rivet gun and you can make your own cut gear for free. As far as training goes, get em in the woods and keep em in the woods. Except the the bluetick of course, leave that thing on the porch.  just kidding of course, best of luck to you.

Hey bud, welcome to the site. Sounds like ya got yur dogs lookin at hogs good. I'm pretty new to it all myself and don't know a whole lot. But now that yur dogs have been after
That hog and showed ya they want it, I wouldn't put em back in a pen again. In the few yars I've been doin this I have seen dogs ruined by to many pen lessons. My pups see a hog pen 1 time only. That pen will teach em to fight one, but not find one ! Best of luck with it, yur gona like this much more than coon huntin !

I understand coon hunters might take a drink or two while hunting. I recomend waiting until the hunt is done with hogs. You just might want all your wits about you catching a pig I always give coon hunters a hard time but it is all good. T-Bob has told you the cheapest cut gear and it works. I have seen a few being used. I did not use it but I hear it works as good as anything just don't look pretty. If you need a knife Wild Boar USA has cheap knifes that will kill a hog as dead as any knife out there.

yea u anit the first one sayed that about coon hunters lol i will do some looking into finding some tow straps i have a firend that used to rasie game pits and he is going to give me some spiked collars would what be good to put on the outside? and i know alot of people might make fun of this but i have a
3/4 aussie shepperd 1/4 plott dog would he be worth training to be a caugh dog and i been trying to horse trade for me a boar knife i got a scrade golden spike knife i hope will get me by if not i got a colt 38 special for the stubborn hogs  lol if all esle fails a mosin naget lol does anyone have any pics of the homemade cut collars

i seen a aussie shepperd an a blue tick mixed that was actually one hell of a rough dog very little bark to him unless it was a good one an then if another dog went to him ... he'd let them bark an he'd fight ... just hunt your dogs hard man if they make you happy well i guess thats what most of its about

Before I could get cut gear I had a guy give me a collar made out of an old fire hose with a wide collar through it.

I thought I would add that I dont know how well that will work since it never got used on a hog.

i was thinking about making a collar out of that too i got someone bringing me a tow strap i am taking that and doing two rounds puting metal eylets to tye it and put a thick leather 3 inch wide spiked collar n the outside and sew it to the strap and snap in on there so if the hog goes to bite he gettin stuck

The hog should be more cutting that biting, at least from my experiences

Will your dog be catching with other dogs?? The spiked collar might injure the other dogs as well. Just sounds dangerous.

You can always take the hogs out alive to make a little extra money, helps support the habit, it will become a habit lol.

yea i been trying to make me a set of hobbles and i thought about that is why i was asking i am new and what i think might work i am sure someone esle has tryed and failed but thanks yall for the help keep the tips coming if you dont mine
