I have a young dog that won't run in front of the pick up with the lead dogs. Does anyone have any tips on how to get her to run with them?

Let her get some age. BUT, let me ask you this, do you think that theres more hog sign in front of you than behind the truck? I know there's a million variable answers and questions, but all I'm getting at is why do we always feel that if a dog was over here or over there or out yonder or back that way a piece that our luck would have been different?

I ask because I always thought a dog needed to several hundred yards away or maybe 50 yards ahead of the truck to strike when in reality I've now seen enough to know that hog sign can be anywhere and the dogs need to get to where it is.

I've seen many times a whole pack of dogs pass up a lil square of grass only to go back to it a few minutes later and strike a track.

Off my high horse. Let her age, put her up and feed her to more bays, only let her run in short bursts and as soon as she checks in, put her back up...

That is very true, I've never looked at it from that point of view. Thanks a lot! I'm gonna really use your advice.

Good point, but, not all dogs are capable of taking wind like yours. Some need nose in the grass.
I think you have an excellent point though and if I had the capability of road hunting like y'all, I'd be taking Monty's advice Wink

I'm sure gonna take yals advice. I do have a dog that'll rig off the hood so Ima put the younger one up there with her and see what she will do. She knows what a hog is for sure from me working her in the bay pen a lot, so ill try her as a rig dog. Thanks a lot guys

Because most people are more worried about looking like they catch hogs rather than actually catching hogs. LoL
