if you got the space then a good line would work...there are a few on here that raise and hunt them...

I like middle of the road type dogs like the mtn cur...the right 1/2 plott with 1/4 pit and 1/4 bmc would work for me...

Yeah i hunt with a lot of mtn curs and they all range out and find pigs. I hear plotts are a bit trashy but that can be broken.

They are versatile, many different lines are being bred by people for different purposes (size, color, track style, game). Do the research and find plotts that hunt your style. They work great for us.

There isnt anything wrong with a good plott or any other hound out there as long as they can drive a track pretty fast. Some plotts can be silent on track and some are not silent, it doesnt matter to the hogs if there is a silent dog or one whistling dixie behind them.

I agree...line the track out quick and move it fast...open or silent don't matter much any more if the hogs are dog smart...

Aren't Plotts more gritty than your typical Hound? I like that about them.

Overall the breed is known for its gritt, and boldness and the only pups I have seen that were not bold were not handled right at young ages. I have seen gritt in all breeds of hounds, but like I said just check into the lines.

Don't fret over it man,....live and learn. You need to be enjoying hunting and learning all you can, raising pups can come waaaaaay later. At least now you won't have to put up with all that macho, male dog stuff. Hunt him and enjoy it.....is my advice.
