I guess it can be much more expensive for some than others. Don't be scared. If they can catch like the Dam you will be blown away! T.Wilbanks you are SOOOOOO right about being cheaper to cull. Small fortune invested in Dogos here. Daingerfield huh? You need one again. I'm right around the corner. You can see the dam in action. As for the Sire, I just cant muster enough nerve to risk gambling $2,220.00. Give me a year and I will have sure enough full blood Dogos WORKING. Not in the show ring. Come see me!
I don't mean to be offensive by this, as I dont know you or your dogs, but it is my personal opinion that this is the main problem with the Dogo right now. People are afraid to lose their investment. There is a good chance that your male has the genetics to be a great hunting dog, but how do you know if you don't hunt him? I love the Dogo and have two of them right now, but I will be the first to say that there is a lot of problems in the working aspect of the breed, especially in the states. It's mostly a problem of consistency. People are breeding their unproven dogs and getting/selling "hunting dogs" and only really turning out one or two hunting dogs a litter with the rest cur out. I know of a handful of breeders who are producing consistency. These dogs should be hunted hard and prove that they can strive at getting the job done before being bred. It should take a lot longer than a year to establish sure enough hunting dogs, especially if your not proving both the parents. You have a male that you don't want to lose your investment on. Why not collect on him and then hunt the piss out of him? Then breed him! If he truly proves himself as an exceptional dog in working ability and conformation, let him hang it up a little early so you could get a few more breedings out of him. I've done minimum research on them but a lot of the stuff I found pretty much said they were moody and tempers, in other words they're mean, to people, dogs ects. But it would be ok if they were mean on hogs right? That was my own reserch which was not extensive at all. It's also all over about pits. And a good pit can't be beat!... Any dog will be aggressive in the wrong hands. |

You can barrow my 1 ton, that's what I got it for  ! It's white too, so they match! In all seriousness, I got the one ton so I could haul all the hogs I catch with these unicorns a 3/4 ton couldn't handle it haha! |

my dogo guards my house (strangers only) , lets my two year old nephews ride him like a horse , you can put him in a box with any other male dog and not even a growl will come out , and will hit a hog like a freight train !!! best all around dog ive ever owned hands down ! got him from us hog outfitters ....... dont get me wrong i love pits and have owned a hand full but i enjoy seeing this 95lb beast shut down a hog like nobodys business !

Lol, i will give it to you, there are a lot of crummy Dogos out there. But the people breeding the good ones, it's hard to beat them. Thats why People got to be careful who they get dogs from, if the want a huntin dog. It's all personal preference, a good one is a good one, pit, Dogo, ab, whatever. |

X2 im in the same shoes you are. The dog i have is one of the best i have ever owned. He is amazing with my kids. My little ones could stick there arms in his mouth to retrieve a baseball and he wont budge. And when i load him in the box hes just as good. Doesnt matter if its a new dog. No aggression wat so ever. And in the wood he turns on that switch on pigs and like you say. He hits like a freight train and wont let go. I got mine from Tomball dogos and dont regret it at all. Comes from a dam good stock of dogos. |
