well didn't think I had much to do today but pull some traps, go set some traps and work around the house. Got a call from BRS seein' if I could go do a guide hunt. I just got back from pullin' a trap so I loaded dogs and headed out. GPS collars were low cuz I forgot to put them on the charger after this weekend but had enuff to hunt a small high fence. Thinkin' I just had to take dogs, catch a pig or 2, get paid and head home. get there with max, ely, Sam, and Biggun. Cut loose Ely and max and they are havin' a lil trouble with so much scent around. run a couple canyons with nothin' and there are pig tracks everywhere. Max comes in and I was ready to pull out of that spot and go on when ely strikes. Barks once or twice and nothin'. sit there waiting on him and he bawls out bayed solid. Head to him with biggun and sam and he meets us half way. I was thinkin' this is too weird. roll him over and he's cut real bad on the inside of his hind leg. Try to get the blood to stop and it was just too late. Didn't get him outta the woods before he went on to be in hog doggy heaven. Sure gonna miss the old man. 8 yrs old and still going strong. has found most of my last couple hundred pigs the last 3 yrs. Definately gonna miss havin' him around. Very unique dog. His heart was 10 times bigger then his body and he never quit me til his last breath. Heavy hearts around here for sure.

far right

thanks guys sure appreciate all the condolences. Mad another run at them this evenin' and it just wasn't the same without him. He was a heck of a dog. Yes rueben he's a kemmer. Tons of heart. Time to regroup and get these young dogs straightened back out. Got one son outta this dog and he's got some big tracks to fill.

again...sorry about your dog...
besides looking like a kemmer...that locating bawl you talked about was a good clue...losing a good dog just leaves a bigger void...but time heals and another will step up...
