My thoughts get all knotted up on this topic.  I don't see the need to keep a dog alive and in misery just for my inability to let go.  Then the emotions of when I had to have mine put down flood me.  Logic leaves.

i was always told "dont you get another puppy if you cant accept it to die in the end."

Dinah:

Did they diagnose her with Pyometra?Huh?Huh? If so......that's gonna be VERY hard for an elderly dog to survive regardless.

I've worked for vets for 14yrs....I understand exactley where you're coming from on your viewpoint.

I was only told that it was some sort of infection and the vet said that she needed to be spayed. My mother was relaying info to me via phone. I will try to get some more info.

Yes she was diagnosted with Pyometra.

Yeah that is ROUGH. A spay does need to be done when that happens, but the prognosis is horrible for such an old dog! I can't believe they are even going to put her under anesthesia at her age! I hope they use the appropriate pre-anesthetic meds!!!

I sure hope so too. While I think that putting the poor old dog.through all of this is wrong I hope that she makes it since they did.  Thank you for your insight on this matter.

Vet will do whatever the owner will allow. Talk to her out of it. I dont blame the Vet at all, they are there to help animals(and profit)

You're welcome. I'm sending positive thoughts her way! Fingers crossed that she does pull through, and will at least have a little more time with her.
