I think way too many people breed now a days. Very few dogs are worth breeding .  We would have less culls and less attention on us as doggers . I bet that is one reason some lines are kept close. Also people are competitive by nature. If You had some good dogs, would you want everyone around you to have them?

Holy crap bro, great minds think alike and I guess even minds like ours too.  Wink

The competitiveness is the way I feel. I've got friends who I feel have very good dogs and I always feel like the kid playing catch up. Why would I finnaly have a comparable set of dogs and say ok sure let's spread the genetics around to the point where I go back to being the dummy with the second fiddle dogs all the time.

I'm not saying what I got is first rate mind you, just saying I finally feel like I've got a girl to bring to the prom and I ain't lettin y'all dance wit her!

and it is a great feeling when 3 or 4 horsemen come out of the woods with 10 or 12 dogs and only one hog...and the rancher say's there has to be more...they hang out right where you crossed with your dogs...then you go in with your dogs and in a few minutes hogs are struck and caught... Smiley

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

as much time and money as everyone spends on dogs they should be more paticulare to who gets there dogs.ive only been doing this a short time and hardly ever let pups go i try to keep them till around 6months of age before i cull any. i have two close friends that get to pick what they want but other than that i dont care about letting any go. the one are two that i did let out were to come back to me if the people got rid of them.they seem to forget the deal you made with them i have yet to get a dog back people just dont honor there word these days.

When lines goes commercial the quality goes down.  $ signs and improper breedings along with a ton of papering dogs follows suit  .  Its been like since the introduction of registerys.

You get what you breed .  If you see dogs that have been heavy linebred, inbred for 40 yrs with no crosses in them and it shows to be like this on paper but the dogs still have tons of vigor and tons of stamina straight frames tons winds tons of speed  then guess what mother nature dont work that way and you are buying paper not the dog .

You find somebody that dont really sell dogs and uses his own and that has had dogs for years become good friends and hope he will sell you a dog then your in real business otherwise if you dont know what to look for and how breedings really work your in for a long ride .
