Have u ever read an ad for a dog being sold that says will not catch a hog under 100lbs ! I find this rather amazing that a dog know how big a hog is , dogs must have a scale on um and weigh the hog when they find it and say chit this hog is 98lbs lemme go find another !

Alot of people use terms like that, and not just when they are selling dogs... If I hunt with someone new or different dogs, i always ask them if their dogs are rough or not.. And you usually get an answer like " he will catch one around 100 pounds " If you hunt a dog enough and catch enough hogs with them, you will learn about what size hogs they will catch and what they wont... And if your buying a dog, knowing about what size hog they will catch is one less question you have to ask...

If he'll only catch certain pigs wouldn't that make him a "Cull". Your strike dog is gonna hit whatever size pig he sees so your catch dog should be willing to hit everything that's bayed right? Not being a smart ass, I'm asking.

My main strike dog will catch the smaller hogs if they are alone. Which i like bc i dont have turn my catch dog loose. But he will not catch one if he bayin a group of hogs or bigger hogs. Some dogs are just catchy on the smaller ones.

one of my dogs will catch hogs up to around 150 if they anit fighting by him self , an bay them if they go to whooping his butt but if another dog comes along wanting to catch he will catch , hes a catahoula , another dog i got will bay every thing from 5 pounds to 300 pounds ,
like twillbanks said hunt them enough an you will know , i can tell the size of the hog by what dogs are barking ,
now a catch dog should catch any size hog !!

What I was refering to is a dog being sold as won't touch a hog if its under 100 lbs , most everydog I've seen will not turn down a hog bcuz its under 100 I don't see how they get off sayin it ! What I'm getting at is people try to sell dogs like there beefin it up and sayin well you'll never catch a small pig cuz this dog won't look at nothing under 100

No i think what they are saying is he is rough and will not catch the hog that doesnt mean he wont bay the hog. My main strike dogs are loose and thats why they have been around for 9 years and not bit the dust and only ever had them cut once. So not a cull to me that what i want them to do if you run rough dogs then yes maybe a cull

I agree with you a real hog dog is gonna bay whatever hog is around weather it 10-500lbs. But i will say this my old plott dog and a few others i have seen tend to single out the biggest hog in the group. But to say they wont catch a small hog is a jk and would either make them the best dog in the world or junk lol. But like most would agree in the dry hot summer anything in better than nothing

Made a hunt a couple weeks ago with Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah and had more or less the same thing happen. Found 1 red piglet and 1 black ear lol. "the sun is shining somewhere in texas" -Jason Boland

I have seen him run on 3solo ones and he chased them for 10ft then turned around....I think it was the trash breaking of varmits when he was younger. He will finish anything bigger

I have a sure nuff female catchdog that won't touch a little pig if the strike dogs have it caught. But the pig was small lil pig. I say won't but I only seen it happen twice lol. I hope I don't get misunderstood that she won't catch small hogs. I have seen it twice but like I said the strike dogs were already caught.
