well according to the movie, them 3 mc coy boys were kidnapped from the law and then murdered with out a trail and jury. yes them 3 in the wrong for killing an innocent man, but when they had been arrested and then kidnapped, the hattfields were wrong as 2 boys fornicating with each other. the crime might have been commited on the wv side and fled to the kentuckey side, but the hattfiled judge had no extridition warrent and then pointed and threatened the sherrif. the hattfields according to the movie started the fued by the theft of the pig.

I loved the show and demanded peace and quiet in the house while it was on. Funny story and maybe it was just coincidence but I used to work with a guy named MCcoy. He lived on the same road all his life and prolly never said a foul word to anyone. Very pleasant man. He accidentally backed a trailer into his new neighbors mailbox. The new neighbor was a hatfield and talked ugly to McCoy for the accident. He was forever a changed man and spent free time plotting on " the daddy didn't marry mommy across the road". The feud almost resurrected itself in north Louisiana!! LOL. Of course it didn't help that hatfield was a yankee

Great show i thought.
If I would have been the Hatfeilds and they put bountys on all my kin folks there would have been some hiding going on but I would have went on the offense real quick . That bounty hunter Bad Frank would have been top on my list and he would have never seen it coming from 350 yards on top of a hill right between the eyes. The Hatfeilds lost a lot of family members by trying to hide out and wait after they killed Jim Vance Hatfeilds brother and shot his son Cap that would have been it I would have been ambushing and way laying them bounty hunters out from the hills never see it coming . O and that lawyer Perry Cline that McCoy had would have been right on the top of the list behind Bad Frank . Sometimes its better to take the fight to them rather than try to hide it out!
I agree...
I was thinking taking out Randall McCoy...if he were taken out all this might have died out...but next would have been Bad Frank and his cronies...
and like you said...sometimes the best defense is a good offense...

oh and for icing on the cake, ole' anes hatfiled was a deserter. he just up and leaves his friends and fellow soldiers during war, goes home and makes a better life for himself, while his friend is in a yankie pow camp. aint no way i would be a supporter of desertion

i did 13yrs of military service and there have mulitiple times when i saw a loosing battle, deployed and stateside, but i didnt desert and leave the military. i was getting motared 1 day and could see the men and tube, but was told to hold on and try not and get hit. 2 more rounds and my tower would have been dialed in and the 3rd round woulda hit. i didnt pack my bag and leave, nor did i say screw it when i was on leave and choose not to go back over. desertion back then was a killing offence, and which he almost got killed for it, but his friend chose not to pull the trigger. common sence aint to common, less now than back then, but again his pig was stolen, which took food out of the mc coy's family mouth. 2 wrong dont make a right, except in math and english. i was married to a mccoy, probably NO relation to the mccoys up there so there is no favoratism, key word is WAS. desertion and condoning desertion is pathetic and sorry. i would enjoy seeing this country fall and anarchy set in and a battle ensue to gain control back from our government, then see how many die from desertion. we all have had to make sacrafices, but i guess for some, as long as they are not making the sacrafice, then its ok.

I agree.
I think it all started when Devil deserted on him and the pig just put the icing on the cake.

Take that one uncle out of the picture and nothing probably would have happened.
