Just got through watching Secretariat for about the 8th time and it still excites and inspires me...I knew he had a larger than normal heart and I thought that that was the reason why he was such an incredible horse...but I read an article where the author explained why Secretariat was such a champion...He said that the horse had a larger heart than normal...but that alone in a race horse is not  enough...he has to have the determination to win and compete as well as be built right for speed and stamina...I am sure there are lots more reasons...

Right now we have a horse that was not known as a top contender until he won the kentucky derby...

The same horse won the second leg of the triple crown at the Preakness...

Now the third leg will be at the Belmont stakes...there have been many horses that have won the first 2 legs of the triple crown and only to fade away at the Belmont...The reason being is that the kentucky derby is one mile and a 1/4 and the preakness is 1 3/16 miles...but the Belmont is 11/2 miles long so it can go to any horse...

I'll Have Another won the first two legs of the crown and I believe he has a chance to win the triple crown this coming Saturday...The reason I say this is because he was pulling away and finished strong on the past 2 races so my hope is that he can pull it off...We haven't had a triple crown winner in a long while...This is better than the super bowl for me. Grin Grin Smiley

I love great horses and great dogs...doesn't matter who owns them...I am hoping to witness a great performance...

I'm with you Rueben, I think this unheralded horse may be able to do it. I'll be cheering for him. Besides it is great to see one of those lower tier horses beat the big boys.

Ay GREAT story for sure to think how much he is worth now even if he doesn’t win the Belmont and the crown--- he was purchased for what??? $35 big ones? and now he is worth quit a few more--- his jokey is also a great story from obscurity to becoming an international hero the kid can ride.

I hope "I’ll have another" wins the crown we will be watching HISTORY in the making considering it doesn’t happen often last crown was won my "Affirmed" 30 years or so ago---I am super excited for this horse ---I am always rooting for the underdog ---GOOD THREAD.

A great old time horseman from Italy named Fredrico Tessio described a great racehorse like this,  They gallope with their lungs, win with their heart and persevere with their character. That would fit a good dog pretty well too.

JOB 39:21-25

NLT version

21 It paws the earth and rejoices in its strength
when it charges out to battle.
22 It laughs at fear and is unafraid.
It does not run from the sword.
24 It paws the ground fiercely
and rushes forward into battle when the ram’s horn blows.
25 It snorts at the sound of the horn.
It senses the battle in the distance.
It quivers at the captain’s commands and the noise of battle.

These verses out of the bible were quoted in these movies... Tonka, Secretariat, and in War Horse...

His daughter Lady Secret or better known "the iron lady" was quit a racingfilly from what I have learned---LOVE her color and size---she was small for a race horse which also reminds me of another great horse Seabisquit even though that movie was far from the actual facts ---I always root for the little guy, the under dog.

My Momma and I always bet houses on the races of the triple crown. Whoever loses has to clean the winner's house for a month.

My Momma will ALWAYS pick the sorrel colt to win. If there is more than one then she looks at attitude and pedigree. She has never in my 24 yrs looked at a previous race record. Her philosophy is that you can't beat a red headed horse anymore than you can a red headed person. Piss them off and they come back for revenge, try and hurt them and they are just gonna come back for more. She picked both charasmatic and I'll have another to win. She's 2-0 so far. Other years she just didn't like the red colts that were running and picked a bay. Lol

I'm with Reuben....it sure is a hoot to watch a super horse in action. I think that every now and then the Good Lord decides to send down a near perfect specimen to live here on Earth for awhile. Such was Secretariat and a very few others. They're a marvel to behold and see in action.....and can move the average person to leap from their chair and jump around like a kid while watching them perform. I consider it an honor to have lived in the time of the great Secretariat and to see him race.....I'm thinking that it will be a loooooong time before we see another of his kind.

Son of a bittch. I was so looking forward to the possibility of a Triple Crown winner. I was going to our  camp on the  lake and boil crabs,
drink a few beers and watch the race. Oh well. Still going boil crabs and have a few cold ones.

Me personally I don't want to here chit about IF he would have ran or IF he wasn't hurt, IF this, IF that. They pulled him so that's it.
What ever horse and trainer wins shouldn't have to here all them what ifs either.

The pullout of I'll Have Another bothers me because it was not the vet recommending it it was the owners. They surely have the right to do that, it's their horse but the rush to get him to the stud farm where the real money in horse racing is bugs me. So many thoroughbreds are bred so young in the quest for money that they have no idea if the are durable enuf to have a real career. The darn breed has gotten more fragile over the years in the quest for speed. JMO
