I was asked if I would be willing to take a bunch of boy scout kids out hog hunting...Show them what hog doggin is all about...they are from 12-17 years old an most of them are city slickers..they have release forms because the place we would do this is a summer camp..the kids would either fallow on foot or be in a truck...Im really having mixed emotions about this..on one side it would be good to show the kids what kind of damage a hog can do to land an what not but at the same time Im afraid something may happen...need advice/comments! And if this sounds good to someone I'd love some help putting it on (dont have a catch dog). The camp is Sol Mayer in Menard TX

I take my son all the time. Get one adult for each child. Not hunting adults, adults to keep an eye on the kids and keep them from doing something stupid. My son knows to keep a tree between him and a pig and if there is more than one i throw him on my back or in a tree and he holds on. We have been lucky and never even had a close call. If things look bad make them wait in a truck or on an ATV. When things get hairy I just don't like people in the way.

I think it would be good for them BUT!!!!!!! let's admit it, it COULD be kinda traumatizing watching a big Dogo, Pit or bulldog pouncing and haveing it's way with a smaller hog. I only say that cause you said they were city slickers.

i would do it. give a kid a chance at something he may never see, and you could turn one of them in to a great dog handler and hog hunter. if you changed one kids life for the best , that would be awsome .

Just make it educational all the way around. Explain to them what feral means. Explain to them the property and crop damage that feral hogs cause. Explain to them the benefits of hunting them with dogs vs. without dogs. Explain to them how the dogs are carefully selected and bred for this type of hunting. Talk a little about the different breed of curs and catch dogs used. After all that explaining and educational stuff them kids will be ready to get on some hoggies  Grin

You are a ways from me but I am always up to work with kids. I have all the patience in the world for dogs and kids maybe not the parents Grin I work with the kids at my church. If you need someone to keep an eye on a kid I can help keep kids safe and maybe teach them a little too.
