In my exprience I have noticed that females more apt to focus on hunting than males and just like any young male there are always other things and there mines. But all it take is more time in the woods and as they get older all they will do is improve.

I have witnessed time and time again the females starting earlier and performing better than their male litter mates. Your male may catch up and even pass her within a few more months of hunting. Then again you never know.
I almost culled one of the best dogs Ive ever raised due to his late start. Kept him because I knew his breeding but was at my wits end at 13 months and he woldnt even look at a hog in the pen. By 17 - 18 months old he was doing great! I would give him a little more time.
Just keep hauling him.

if he s showing interest id give him some time a dog dont get grown until 2 years old . a year old pup is about like a 7 year old kid , imagine putting a kid that age out there and expecting him to do the work of a grown man .

I've had the same experience as Boarninja, I would have gotten rid of a good dog if I hadn't taken him by himself one day. He was a different dog with no distractions!!!!

As much hunting as you have been doing it might be a good idea to give them dogs a rest. Take some of them other dogs just sitting on a chain. Heck give them a job.
