Thought I would pass along some info on a recent purchase that I am pleased with. I own dozens of knives, and almost as many knife sharpeners, and until now, haven't found a sharpener that I was pleased with. On the referral of a friend, I purchased a "Work Sharp" knife and tool sharpener. Let me tell you, this thing is AWESOME. I think I paid about $75.00 delivered, and in a matter of minutes I had 9 knives all razor sharp. The only unwanted side effect is that I am right handed, and test the edge by shaving a patch on my left arm... Having sharpened 9 knives and tested each one, now I have one smooth arm and one hairy arm

Circle C, I bought my nephew a double edge knife with a 7 in. blade to carry hog hunting. The blade is made out of 420 stainless. Can't sharpen it for chit. Did you test the new sharpener on a hard to sharpen knife ?

I have a couple that are hard to get an edge on. I used the coarse belt for two passes on each side, then the medium belt for four passes on each side, then the fine belt for two passes on each side. Worked perfect.

I'm sure it'll get a knife sharp, but I bet it'll wear a blade out pretty quick...

I've had one for a year now and the belts are so fine it don't wear a blade down that bad. It does go thru the belts tho.

you may be correct, but what good is a blade if it doesn't have an edge? If it does wear the blade down, I'll buy another knife

If there was a school to learn knife sharpening, I would go... for me, seems I can sharpen "some" knifes half ass decent... but it really pi$$es me off that I can't re-create a factory edge...
Cool gizmo Chris, I assume it comes with something to help hold the angle while sharpening?

i can still sharpen with a stone if the knive has good metal. i hate the factory edge that comes on knives, i like a long bevel and most of the factory edges are short bevel. i recently bought a moore maker trapper. i put a long bevel on both blades. i used the spey blade to barr and mark eight hogs (thats all that my spey blades touch) it would still shave afterwards, i used the pointed blade to cut two pieces of rope and it was dull, i think that blade was made of a softer metal.

I have seen people use stones wrong and ruin a blade. I can't find stores with stones and I look.

I use a variety of sharpeners. I like the carbide and ceramic ones run it over the carbide LIGHTLY then over the ceramic then use a sharpening steel to fine sharpen. Works pretty quick and don't take much metal off if you don't use the carbide much. The steels are a pain but when you get it down they work great.
