I am new to hog doggin and was curious if anybody would use a 3/4 bmc 1/4 pitt as a lead in catch dog or strictly as a bay dog? Any suggestion or opinion is valued and appreciated. gabe2138@aol.com (never check) 3619602800

From what i saw  last hunt he is pretty rough. I have only had him a week and been to the fields one time with him. He is my only dog and my buddies bay dogs are pretty rough. Lately his bay dogs have had hogs break on them so I was just thinking of ways I could get my dog to help out. He seems to be a pretty fast dog. Like I said Im new to the sport so just looking for different ways to use him. He went straight to the ear on a 150 pound sow last hunt.

Others have said this before. If your dogs are shorter range dogs and you can get to em pretty quick you can use him as a RCD or stop dog but if they get way out there you may have a mess by the time you get there. You may want to walk him up if he is straight catch and you hunt long distances. Just somethin to think about.

Throw him on a rank boar bout 220 plus with some stinging teeth to test his metal.
If he is all catch...vest him and lead him in.
If he backs up and bays use him for rcd or bay.
If he runs in and catches and let's go over and over...put dirt on his head. He will be a bay buster.

Agreed...and nothing is more aggrevating than a bay busyer ! I personally dont use rcd just due to that fact my dogs usually strike 400 or more so have a rcd or 2 is pointless for me they just go in busting bays and if it is a good boar and they stay caught usually there aint much left of em when i get there.

I had a full BMC I used for a lead in catch dog for 10 years. He was by far the best I ever had. I doubt if many dogs that caught as many big hogs as he did ever lived to retire. I will admit, he was a freak.

He still needs lots of training and work... Can't make a hog dog in one hunt :-)) keep hunting him and with time you will realize what he has inside that little heart of his lol some dogs turn out good and some just ain't worth a flip give him time and work just my advice Gabe we will find out what he's made of

A rcd has to hear the bay and go not hang around the truck listening to the bay a dog that's been on 40 hogs should be a heck of a lot more seasoned then he showed. Either the guy u got him from is full of it or he a cull that's why he gave him to u I'm willing to bet that theres guys on here that hunt as hard as we do (3-5) days a week and have hogs break to when your running them every other night they arnt going to lay there and let the dogs bay
