I have a big CD, hard hitttin, huge head, 100+ pounds, hard mouth mean and tough as they come. Butttttt he is always gettin cutt literally every boar we get on hes all cut up. I know he is te first one in all the time but is it just bad luck or is he cstching wrong? I have seen him cstch in a pen amd hes perfect, literally. I have never ran vest on my cd. And in about 8 yrs ive prolly had 3 die. But since ive had him ive had to run full protection amd it seems like he still get cutt bad. Anybody know why? My other big CD never has a scratch.

My old pit always got cut inder the chin and idk why or how. Also may be at what angle he is hitting from. If he hits head on in the woods which I think was my cds problem he is more likly to get cut especially till he catches and lays up beside the hog.

I think the angle might be it, bc he is always on ear in the woods. And all his cutts and cest and front of legs.

It might have something to do with him weighing a 100 lbs. More for the hog to hit.

I'd agree, plus it would make him that much slower and a slower reaction to whats coming. My catchdog weighs 55 lbs, He's a hard hitting good catchdog, and I still think he's too slow at times. I couldn't imagine one weighing 100 lbs.

It may have some to do with it but i have always had big cd never got cutt like him. My other one is just as big but never gets a scratch. and a small cd wouldnt work for me we only use one or two strike dogs. One is pretty rough and one wont touch a hog. So i need some a$$ behind him.

May be the bad luck. We use usually 2-3 dogs, but they dont lay a tooth on a hog the majority of the time. As soon as he catches, they roll out and go after another one.

Well I would say it has something to do with him not being a athlete . I to run loose dogs and use a jack Russell that weighs about17 lbs to catch 75% of all my hogs. The,next in line for my catchdog weighs 38 lbs. Its not in the weight I look for but in the style. Thats jmo.

We have caught plenty of hogs with one catchdog around 50#.. Sometimes with dogs that help and probably more with dogs that dont... They've taken a few beating, but always hold their own.. If hes getting cut more on his legs, you may look into a vest with leg flaps.. I know they have saved my catchdogs alot of cuts...

It may be a real nice dog, but I wouldn't keep letting it catch. Even if the cuts aren't life threatening I just don't like a dog that's always getting cut, they're just not cut out for this line of work. If you are a carpenter and you hit your thumb with the hammer 4 times every day and your poor ol thumb stayed black and blue how long you think it would take before you realize your better off a plumber?
I'm just lucky with dogs but we've caught hundreds of hogs this and last year and (knock on wood) I haven't unwrapped the staple gun yet.

Lol @ this.... Come hunt and see if your athletic jack russell will hold a 300lb boar with one semi gritty cur.

X2 if a 17lbs dog can really shut a big boar down. I need me a couple of those, but when i see a huge american bulldog latched on to a ear and a big boar throwin him around its hard to imagine a 17 lbs jack russell pinning him down

Not only were those caught with that jack russel, but they were cuaght and tied by lil ol skinny women.

That's why you big catchdog guys say stupid stuff like a little pit wouldn't work around here... Blah blah blah. Do y'all think your hogs are somehow different? No the difference is y'all think a hog needs to be weighed down and dang near immobilized before you'll leg it, not all of us believe that. Biggest hog of my life wasnt even caught real solid, just had a couple curs mouthing at him and keeping him interested in them.

Hotshot lol.... Thats y i said come show me. No one is going to tell me a 17lbs dog will hold down and big rank boar by itself, something id just have to see haha.
Ive met some really good people off this site...actual hunters.... But i see so much bs its unreal.
@cward i looked 6-7 pages back on Dogs on hogs and didnt see many or ANY pics or videos of hogs. Since you have 682862929262 post id thought there would be some of hogs yall have caught. I really want to see that dog on a big hog by himself it would be veryyyy impressive. But maybe i missed them idk.
Seems like 1/2 the people on this site just get on here to start conflicts lol its a dang internet hog doggin site dont think its ment for that lmao
Anywayssss thanks everyone for your input never can stop learning in this sport. Some people TALK it and some people LIVE it. Hunting 4-5 times a week is living it. OF COURSE NOT EvERYONE can be internet hog hunting sensations. Lol

I apologies, NOW I understand a little better. Your using a catch dog to STOP the hog, that's where I was confused, I'm used to cur dogs doing that. And I don't mean by catching but by baying. There's a quote for you buddy
