Me and my dad went to Linden this weekend to do some work on my parents property and Mike drove up to meet us on Friday to see if we could find a hog.  While driving around Friday afternoon we saw quite a few hogs so we were really looking forward to the morning hunt.  We took four young male dogs out first thing to see what they could produce, struck one hog and they stayed with him for about 500 yards through some THICK woods and the hog gave em the slip in a creek bottom.  We hunted on with no luck so we went back to the house and just got the two old ladies, Smiley and Tweety out and made a loop.  We were heading back to the camp house when we heard Smiley open up in the creek bottom and and Tweety was on her way.  We saw on the Garmin that the hog broke and then we saw they were set up and we could hear them hammering good so we headed that way.  The hog was bayed right by the road and we walked up to within abou 15 yards and cut Clifford loose.  Hog broke and then stopped in the slough right behind where he was bayed, the hog would not turn so we could leg him and in the process raked Clifford off on some vines and ran about 60 yards were they cought him and we stuck him.  Hated to kill him but there was no way to turn him loose in the briar thicket he was in.  Good young FAT boar about 200lbs.
Took just the pups again yesterday afternoon with Smiley and after a while of hunting Smiley struck a sow and she broke out of her bed and ran about 500 yards where they shut her down and had her bayed for nearly 15 minutes before we could get to them.  They were in a finger between two creeks and we couldn't really see what we had.  Smiley, Crow, Smokey and Bobo were backed up hammering away and the youngest pup Tiger (9 months old) was walking into to the bay and we heard him go in and bark about three times and then catch hahaha.  Sent Clifford in to a 230lbs sow that we had to kill also because it was going to be too hard to let go.  Hated to kill em but I think after these two that is only three hogs we have killed off the place in 2.5 years so not too bad.  Thanks Mike for making the drive, I had a good time.

Thanks guys, yeah Josh that part of Texas gets rain once a week seems like.  All the hogs we saw and caught were FAT FAT I don't know what they eat but they stay that way.  Lots of white oak and red oak acorns may be it.  This place is the vineyest place but we lucky, we could have ended up in some REALLY nasty places.

Good times Matt, good times. That was a good race and bay for them young dogs on that sow... but Tiger has got to get his mind right.

The drive up was nice, but that jog over to Central Texas made for a long ride today. Bryant, thanks again and it was good to see you again.

Matt, I enjoyed it and we'll do it again soon.

Chris I was real happy with Smokey.  He was bayed with the others for a good while, hunted out really good and everything else I could want him to do.  Acted like he had been doing it forever, I think he is going to be a goodun.

I guess so... he caught his first two hogs in the woods. I'll give him a little time and see if he gets with the program.

Glad you are happy with Smokey...He was my favorite of the group. Just seemed that Coal fit our program a little better for now.

I was really impressed with Tiger.  He hung with the boys very well and even though he wasn't in on the race with the sow he hunted good with them and made some big loops.  Once he figures out that barking is better the biting he is gonna make a heck of a dog, at 9 months he has got plenty of time to learn.
