well, decided to go hit the brush for a liitle bit yesterday evening since all we've been hunting is corn and milo. hit one good boar, he cut one of my strike dogs and broke....never stopped him again. then we hit another boar and he bayed nice and they caught him quick. nice boar 2 1/2" teeth...did a little work on em...nothing major. we then hit another boar hog and they bayed, then he broke, then they stopped him again long ways off in brush...then all was quiet. i started tracking and looked like most the dogs were coming back. couple of the boys that hunt with me called and said they had four dogs and figured that hog broke and didnt hear anything else. i had two dogs come back to the truck tired and figured the same. i told the boys come on back and we'd head home....dogs were pretty beat. all dogs were back except a dog named Pup(yellow cur dog), which not that uncommon, hes rough and will stay on one little longer sometimes. i tracked again and decided to drive around to get closer and my signal was kinda in and out and weak(my first thought that something isnt right). i have been using and still do, wildlife materials tracking system, it works better in my terrain than gps(my own personal trials). i started down that old sendero and after a bit....weak signal...GOOD..almost to him, well couple hundred yds up, i checked again and had a strong signal. i stopped and got out of truck and walked up and my fears were becoming clearer as i saw what looked like an old pond bank(i knew what had happened, but wouldnt let myself believe it). sure enough, i had a great signal while standing on the pond edge pointing at middle of the stock tank....when i walked to the other side and pointing the other way....nothing..until i pointed the antennae back to the tank middle. now, this had happened to me before a few years back, and it was a gator and got my dog back next day after he bloated and floated to the top. well, as i stood there i waited in the dark on the edge with my light off(keep in mind that im an alligator hunting guide and have been for many years so im used to the way they act and what they do with prey)and after a couple minutes i shined into that black water and i could see that big son of a @#*&% about a foot below the surface sinking back to the bottom. i then looked over on the other edge and could see something black kinda half floating on top....it was the boar Pup and probably couple my other dogs had. fished that hog outta the water and both ears chewed off(nice boar..im trying to put the picture of him at bottom of post....please excuse the pic...not too good, but was more concerned about the situation at hand). wasnt a whole lot i could do then, gator went to the bottom, dog underwater, and so i just decided to go back once Pup floated up......... Went back today and got Pup out, he had floated up. it appears that they must have had that boar in the water and been fighting him swimming, then drowned him....then gator at some point came off bottom and grabbed Pup by the sternum and pulled him under. i know where this gator lives and come sept 10th.....hes a goner. R I P Pup.....one great hog dog and family pet. guys, keep yalls eyes peeled for gators....there are getting to be more and more. thanks, Jake....PS.. the pics below are of the hunt, the hog by itself was the hog in the gator stock tank
