Alright, I just got my A$$ chewed out by a friend that watched one of my video clips of catchin' a hog...  Grin  He claimed I was being "overly cautious", in that, I left the CD on the hog until I had good control...

I'll get right to the point... He says that as long as you got a (flipped)hog's top/front leg in your hand, there is NO WAY that hog can stand up.

Now... in all the jiu-jitsu wrasslin' I've done with hogs over the years....  Grin    Yes, that does work MOST of the time...

BUT(and that's a VERY BIG BUT), I have had a handful still manage to get that bottom/rear leg under them and get their hind end up.... AT WHICH POINT  Undecided  .... it usually gets REAL interesting hahaha...  Shocked Grin

... I will admit, these instances I've had a hog stand up on me, "maybe" I did not administer "technique" properly on that top/front leg(I doubt it, but it is possible I guess)... what usually was to blame, was the hog.

... some hogs are just plain strong.  You think you got them one minute... the next minute you on your head Grin

Having seen this enough to respect it, I do not fool with a big hog anymore.  I leave a catchdog on his head until I have FULL control, or at least that back/bottom foot tied up...

... maybe not the most "sporting" way, but I don't give a chit.  It keeps me and mine safe so I can work/hunt another day  Wink

So, share your hog wrasslin' skills, always open to new techniques!!!!  Grin

Noah to me it seems the hogs are easier to tie when then catchdog is broke off. But yes there are some hogs that can stand up. If you ain't careful . I want the catchdog broke off as fast as I can. Thats just me. And if I can do it with out a catch dog thats even better.

Good vid Chance, I want to see you flip/tie by yourself though so as I can study your technique!!!  Grin  And make sure it's a good one  Grin

This is a conversation all me and my friends get into every once in a while when talking about flippin'/tyin' a good hog solo... "well I do this"... "well I'd do that" lol... when I hunt with those same friends and we do get on a good one... ain't never anybody hollerin' for help ta get back hahahaha  Grin

I do know that there are some ol' country boys that can damn sure throw/tie better than me, I'd just like to see them do it so I can learn how!!!  Wink

Again, this is in reference to one of them ol' "cock-strong" SOBS... NOT your typical bitch hog... so getting that on video may be difficult at best

The one place where I see a lot of people mess up and have a real hard time is when they are just trying to hold them down.  All you've gotta do is grab that top leg at the hock and more or less lean back with that leg.

No haha this time I wasn't being sarcastic or joking. I actually meant that I want to go with cward Friday if possible and will do the camera work.

I've flipped plenty of hogs and done quite a few who weren't caught by catchdogs. Chance has caught probably 10x more than me if not more.

Noah, Ive always flipped a hog with is back legs and then kneeled on it and held its legs like it was a calf that we were doctoring. But now that I think about it, ive had many big calves dump me on my head.  Cheesy

There are a lot of times when we dont even turn the cd loose.... but ...
I don't care what technique is used, im sure that there is a hog out there that can take anyone to school.  Grin

You talkin' about the front leg or back?  Our terminology may be different, but I assume you are talking about the front...  which, yes, that does work most times...

You learn how to tie a hog yet?  Tongue Grin

Had one get up on me and seen one get up on a buddy.  Seems they both were in a ditch where they could push back then up with that back leg.  Now both times there was help and put it right back down but if had been just one person it would have got western.

I've had one time where I thought one was about to get up from under me. It was the 9th hog and final hog of the night last summer and I was beat, dogg tired. I crawled off into the thicket and grabbed leg didn't have room to get it flipped so I just layed my chest on his butt while I got some ties on his front legs. He couldn't do nothing as I am a heavy load to walk off with. Or so I thought.
Turned out ok, just jerked the ropes on his front legs and they flipped him so I could get to sittin right on him.

I usually take the front bottom leg and hold it up past their pecker, they ain't usually goin nowhere.

Been there myself, it has happen to me 3 different times, all were due to mud and me not having a good grip, luckily i havent met many hogs that can stand on 2 legs with 250lbs on there back tellin em otherwise lol

As you said Purebreed, it's that back/bottom leg that spooks me... I'm hoping somebody can prove to me that just pullin' on that top/front leg can eliminate this issue honestly... but I have my doubts.

... had a bo-hog stand up on me a year or two ago, told my buds to pull the bulldogs off... "I got this"... lol...

... sumbitch got that bottom/rear under him and up he went... I sprawled out and leaned back on that "top"/front leg as hard as I could... so hard, the "pop" I heard was not his leg breaking, it was my rib lol... I got his ass rolled back over, but I had a hard time coughing for the next month hahaha... if he'd been another 10% stronger, he would have had me.

Until I get that rear/bottom, I just don't feel safe...

... having said THAT....  Grin  I've had all the above and had a good one "buck" and it don't matter WHAT legs you "had" aholt of lol  Wink Grin

Yeah, yeah, yeah I got it down pat Cheesy

Front leg, just like you would a calf. A lot of people lean forward and try to put all of their weight on them and just try and manhandle 'em, which if they do get up some how, your gonna get dumped on your head! I think when you lean back with 'em it brings that bottom leg up and they can't get traction, if that makes any sense?

Also, one reason I really don't like real "catch dogs" is I like the dogs to let go once I get my hands on the hog. Absolutely hate a dog pulling on the hog for that split second after you flip a hog til you get on top of it, especially if there is a dog on each ear. I don't like anybody helping me try to flip a hog either, most of the time they just get in the way.

Now that kinda makes sense John, when I have got in trouble in the past, it's ALWAYS me gettin' pulled forward and my head hits the dirt trying to hold one... maybe I'm just not leaning back enough... I will try that next time for sure
