Went out to the farm last night along with Justin Corbell and Danielle. The dogs winded a hog so we turned Sweet Pea loose. At first she ran the track backwards but it didn't take long for her to get her bearings right. We heard her sound off when she found this boar. Justin's Smoke dog, his brindle gyp, and our Camo were already on the ground in another field and they went to her. We could here the hog growling and fighting the dogs. He sounded big so James turned our cat Rowdy and Red to them because I didn't have Blue vested up yet due to the heat. So all the dogs were fighting to keep this sucker bayed up. We finally got Blue vested up and turned him loose. THe hog didn't make a sound when Blue caught. We thought this might be a good one and we were right.

We decided to bring this one home and weigh him. Justin tried out a method of measuring the hogs heart girth to get a weight and I couldn't believe it but he was right on the money.

Any guesses as to what he weighed?

Notice that in the last two pics the hogs back feet were barely off the ground but we had him as high up as we could get him.

Nice boar and nice lookin dogs too. I'll say 278.

Just curious how you knew your dog backtracked?  Did you see the hog before the dogs?  Mine do that from time to time. Fun to watch them straighten it out and really turn on the heat.

We were sitting on a road inbetween two fields and when the dogs winded the hog from the ranger all of them were holding their heads up towards the field to the south of us. When we put Sweet Pea on the ground, she put her nose to the ground and took off into the field to the north of us. She ran the track for a minute and then turned around and beelined into the field to the south of us and thats where he was. I figure that at first, she ran the track backwards and then figured it out and turned around.

If anyone is interested in the "heart girth" measurment here it is, i pulled it off another site a while back because i was intrigued and wanted to test its accuracy, i'll be danged if it wasn't almost exactly spot on......it was 2 lbs off to be exact, pretty interesting in my opinion.

This hog was quite a bit older than last weeks based on his tooth wear. He was nowhere near as rough and wasn't near the fighter as the other (probably due to the 50lb sack of corn in his belly lol) but he still managed to slice n dice a couple of Mrs. Dinahs dogs, im sure ol red is sore as hell right now but he will live to hunt again! That big son of a gun impresses me more everytime we hunt......that dog has the pain tolerance of a bulldog!

And i'm surprised at how close some of you are on the weight!

In internet hog dogger pounds he's close to 5000 lol but real world is a different story hahahahahahahaha

Hahahahahahahha!!!! I had never seen nor heard of that "heart girth measurment" but it is nice to know......i have left quite a few in the woods because i either couldn't get my buggy in or drag em out.....all you need to get a 1/2 arse weight is a piece of rope, measure it later and viola.
