The range on a jagd depends a lot on the blood and how u prefer to hunt. I've seen direct imports that won't get out more than 100 yards but give that blood a couple generations here in the states and it's a different story. Most of what I've had and keep will hunt out 300-900. But I try to keep as much Dixieland blood as I can cause they are usually rangey with lots of bottom.

I'm not sure if I'm a little to excited or she's just doing that good!! Just wondering do all jags seem to pick up that quick!?

Mine came out of creekmore blood from the lufkin area and at 8mths would roll to 3-400yds occassionally out to 6-700yds but would roll out in fresh sign.

I think they usually do hunt right off. all the ones i've seen were trying to hunt by 10 or twelve weeks old. I'm not saying they could get it done but if you turned em loose they started trying to run rabbits and things. a buddy of mine bought a female that went with us at ten weeks old and walked on her hind legs on the leach wanting to hunt. she went nuts if she smelled a hot track. they will hunt for sure right off.

They are supposed to be open according to european standards. on sight or scent. so i guess it's a toss up.My male used to be open on scent as a pup but he rarely makes noise since he's gotten older if he's barkin he sees it.I've heard alot of jagd guys talking and I asked the same question and they have said they are open usually.

In the European testing you tell the judge whether you want the dog judged open on scent or sight.

There has been some discussion on another board about maybe doing a field trial for jagds and maybe even a bench show. Supposed to be in the fall sometime or was it next spring? Any how thought it may be fun to show the snobby Europeans what American rednecks could to their beloved breed!!! Evil

I would like to go to that. Was it on jagd terrier forum?

Yes that's where it was. I don't know the status of it because some wanted the Europeans to recognize the testing which they won't ever do. Personally I just wanted to test my dogs to their standard but don't care whether they recognize the results or not. Mine get whooped for digging so stuffing them into a tunnel or getting them to run a rabbit may not happen Grin I'd like to see a jagd only bay trial. Or at least a terrier class at an open trial.

me to. I think there should be a club with a abillity test and breeder cerifications and titles of some kind. Just to keep the breed what it now is but who gives a rip what the jerrys  like in a dog.Thank you europe the Americans will take it from here.

I love mine, I've not seen one I didn't like yet. I've had a few but he is my first one. he will bay  when by himself but it will be a foot from it's nose and if he decides he can take it or gets bored baying he will catch. if another dog catches he definitely is going to catch. If you have a jagd to work the back end it works really good.I going to get more soon. I would like to be just hunting jagds  at some point and a couple catch dogs. I'm not saying their the best at everything but if you put your money down on the table for one you are going to get your moneys worth at least.
