I give up on finding a good dogo, I appreciate the responses but $1000 is a lot to pay for a dog that might not turn out. How do the greyhound pit crosses work, and also what about 3/4 pit 1/4 greyhound work out ?
I would also be interested in hearing about how a stag/pit cross would be. Biggest things being agility and catching ability. Would be used as a running catch dog in the woods, clearcuts and briar thickets. Need something that can help stop a running hog and keep it busy till the pit gets there.

never tried either cross but i am buying a greyhound to cross with a pit so i can get a catch dog with some speed.

I have seen some greyhound/pits that looked awesome and caught really well. I know a guy that use to run them exclusively in the 80's and would put 6-8 on the ground and just about catch any hog in the woods. That being said I think you almost have to go with a 3/4 pit 1/4 greyhound to get the frame of the dog strong enough. I have seen a 1/2 dogo 1/2 greyhound that looked awesome and caught really well, very big dog. Greyhounds have a light bone structure and the 50/50's end up with a lot of broken ribs etc. I would personally like to see a 3/4 ab 1/4 greyhound.

i don't know if Cody (BlackGold) sold all of his stag cross pups, but i'd seriously give him a call if you're really thinking about going this route. his stag gyp was bred to Krystal Rohan's Cotton, an Amerigo (abxdogo). i don't know if you've looked at any of her WHITE dogs but they are one heck of a cross and very consistant. they should really turn out with a lot of leg, lung, and a good bite with the ab and dogo blood in them. |

you are looking for about the same thing i am wanting. will adventually have some half ridgeback 1/4 dogo 1/4 ab. Hopeing with the half ridgeback they will have some lung to them to be able to go for a while and not tire out as fast. Know gray hounds are fast but they also tend to expend all of their energy pretty quick. Also read a post the other day that said that greyhounds are ONLY sight hounds. Know some bulldogs can wind pretty dang good but know a couple that dont at all eather so who knows if you would get one that could wind or not.

Can't find any good ridgebacks around here, only show dogs. I wouldn't mind having a ridgeback/pit cross.

greyhounds overheat easier than staghounds and they have weaker skin.... id say the best crosses over a staghound would be an english mastiff, bull terrier, AB or a pit bull. anything that would add a bit more head size, power and gameness. a lot of people use irish wolfhound X's over here. or deerhound

we have 1/2 stag 1/2 airedales out here in cali, havent seen very much of anything that is as rough...my son in law has 2 stag.pit.pharoahhound, catahoula pups for sale ready to go in 2 weeks. we can ship 2 pups back to texas for under 200.00 , and i think he wants 100.00 each for them....the dad was my running catch dog for 3 years,and rough as all HADES...mother is real gritty and is striking pigs since 10 mos old....the stag/airedales are fater than anything i have ever owned...flat shut a running hog down...JW

Update*** I ended up getting one of Cody's stag/dogo/AB cross pups. If she catches, listens, and stays close she will be a great part of my dog team. Hopefully one day I can breed her to my pit/dane male. That should be an awesome running catch dog.

We just got two stag males about a year old and they work awesome, dont have any nose but if they see it they stop it, we watched one stop a runnin 200 lb boar all by himself and held it until the pit got there. We have caught quite a few hogs already with them. I wanna find an AB, mastiff, or maybe a Bull terrier to cross with. If anybody has a female that wants to breed to a stag male I just want two pups out of the deal.
