Watching sportsman channel and was wondering how many of y'all hunt lions with dogs?how do you train them?drags or what?

just got dome watching it also.............my family friend jerry campbell has hunted lions in west texas and new mexico and i think he still has a few lion dogs not sure how he trains them to be so good but ill try to ask him about them and ask him how he trains them but i know it takes a few days sometimes weeks to tree one like they said on the sportsman channel

I have a pack of them in,the back yard.... They can run cats better than hogs and are a lot of fun.

Thanks for posting that Eric that was hell of a hunt 2 lions  in about a hour!! That was one Harry hunt with the lion bayed on the ground screaming once in a life time hunt for sure ..

As for training pups me and my grandad caught wild house cats doused them down with water and squirted lion piss on them and let the pups run them that got them started the fastest for us. Then put them with the old dogs and see what they were made of!! I also run bobcats with my hounds because there is not enough mountains lion in my area to have straight lion dogs .

Running house cats is about the best way to instill the eternal hatred that is needed for a good cat dog.  It is better to train a dog on cats first and then go to stinkier animals as they learn to really grub out the tracks, cats leave by far less scent than hogs and bear.

Had one up on our place in llano last year. Almost called you Jesse to come up here but I can't get permission from the neighbor. Found one axis doe dead a week after I saw it crossing a ranch road.
