Why reinvent the wheel. Low percentage of cur dogs even make decent dogs so why start with even worse odds? Takes the same time and money to feed a good dog that it does for a sorry one. People have been hunting hogs for a while. You are not going to make or find a better dog. In fact, I am pretty sure people have messed up most lines and breeds attempting to make a dog something it isn't.

Don't listen to this nonsence!!!
Ducks right about most dogs sucking at their job, do I believe all new hunters should spend several years trying to Frankenstein the perfect dog. You know, like they do in Australia. Take the doberman/cur add in some heeler, maybe some Labrador or spaniel. Then cross them over the biggest heaviest blue pit you can find.

Yall go ahead and laugh but we have a dog that is dane, mastiff, pit and dogo and we didn't have to show him, he caught hard on the ear of the first hog he came in contact with. He is still to young to take to the woods as a catch dog but he will freak out when we drive him around in the woods and we cross fresh tracks so he knows what they smell like too.  Smiley

Djhogdoggers this is a full sister to your dog, I took her on one hunt to let her get a little bit of exposure an once I seen that it was not a big pig I let her have a go once the other dog was caught.

ive spent endless amount of time on "the quest for the perfect dog" and what ive found is keep it simple and go with what works ,i learned this from a man i met drivin down the road load'n up a big nasty boar up on the side of the road .i ran a few times with him and he had the worst looking mixed match bunch of ferrel dogs ive ever seen in my life he said he found them at the dump over the years ,but ill tell you them mother scratchers are rough as all get out and will fill the freezer by the morning and id put my last check on that bunch in any open woods competion.it tought me a very valuble lesson
