take your best dog, walk them in and grab the dirt off the first track and rub on nose, then show them next track and cast.

best way to start pups too

when i hunted that way, i used to use 2 dogs to start a track and once it was up and running i would turn 3 more into them. now I free cast 3 or four at a time and they either bay the pig in his bed or sneak up and surprise them. generally they all hunt their own direction and then honor each other when they hear a bay.  I really like they way they hunt now but it took a lot of trash breaking to trust more than 2 on the ground at a time. I trust every dog im hunting right now. its great.

I use two plotts or one plott and my one cat.  I hold them together and aim them the way the track is going or to the point where the track goes into the woods.  Most of the time, any combination of my two above will find and bay...dont usually need any help dogs.

If my two dogs bay or someone elses, I dont believe in sending a help dog in...just doesnt make sense and leads to making dogs too rough.  Only time I use help dogs is when the hog breaks and runs and it turns into a long race.

If I find a big track I wanna turn loose on, I use one dog.  I will track the hog to where he went in the woods and lead him over the tracks til he can calms down and realizes there is a cold track there.  Once he starts pulling at the lead I'll let him go.

It's a good way to train a track dog and you can make it work and create some dogs that are more track driven.  It can be aggravating but patience is the key.  Not many people wanna cut loose on a track at noon and wait any length of time for the dog to jump. Sometimes it takes alil while longer then right now.

Thats a good idea hog master lead him around on the track and let em calm down. When I cast my dogs there off like lightning and a lot of times over run the track.

It works is all I can say about it.  My dogs like to come out the box 90 to nothing and piss on crap.  One dog on a lead and I can manage him and we can read each other alil better.  Just something that works for me.

One dog at a time, string em out so each dog has to use their nose and not just following.
