How long have you had him before you took him to the woods?  I usually wait a week or so to let one get use to me before going to the woods.

rope him. or had a friend that set a hog trap up with meat in it. if in the woods. at the house have him on a rope and give him a treat when you call him and he comes. they willl then know when you call them and they come they get a reward

may try having some1 else try and catch him. if the dog senses any hostility in your voice, it aint gonna come near you. i am speaking from experience and it was with my own dog that i raised from a pup. it took some1 else to catch him but i did do the praise and treat as i handled him more after he chose not to come to me. aint got an issue with him now.

If he knows what he is supposed to do but is being hard headed a shock collar on low will get his attention.  Some dogs just need to think that you can still have control over them even if they are not right next to you.  Others just take time and lots of attention. My lacys and most of my male dogs that shock collar is a heaven sent but have had and have one now that only attention and or treats will over come.

I had a cat that would not come to me. I roped her a couple times and petted her when I got her. Just let the dog know there is an easier way of doing things.

Try walking up to him with another dog on the lead it may help. If you ever do catch him tie about a 20 foot piece of weed eater string to his collar, he will be easier to get ahold of next time
